Maxima vs. Deer--Son of a......

As the title says.....

Anyways, the car is considered a total loss, but I am buying it back and having it repaired. That is my best option from a financial standpoint, even though the it will be a salvaged title. I was thinking of updating the headlights to the 1 piece R34s. Is this a good idea? I have heard bad things about the beam pattern and don't want to retrofit projectors. (time and money prohibtive) Would they be ok if I just went with HIDs without projectors? Any feedback welcome!!!

Sucks about your accident.

Projectors in the R34's.........do it right, or don't do it at all.

Well if the bags blew, its a total loss. Anyways, glad to hear you're ok and you will be doing the smartest thing by buying it back. Hell you might even pocket some money if you do all the work yourself.

Yeah I know it doesn't look like much but the ins. est. was $6800
- hood
- fender
- radiator
- rad support
- fans and fan shroud
- headlight
- grill
- paint and blend nearly half the car (it was a buck and the antlers scratched the side)
- bumper cover repair

I'm have it repaired "economically" and only doing what's really needed
Should be a little under $3000

That sucks! You have a good idea on buying it back and fixing it. It's cheaper than a monthly payment.
Is that a piece of the deer stuck to the fender?!

The car will never ever be the same... I would get rid of it and buy another one instead. Anytime u try to do something it might not fit, esp. the headlights. I was in an accident that was much much smaller, and now headlights wont fit like they once did. I wouldnt fix it if I was in your shoes.

If i had the choice to buy either.....A) oem headlights and courtesy lamps...... or B) one piece r34 headlights..... I would deffinately go B.

The output is not that bad.... especially if you are compairing them to our factory headlights. They do have a crown affect. I just aimed mine a little closer together to get a cross affect.....

I also changed jumped up another 10 watts w/ a 9005 bulb. The output inproved tremendously.

HID would again improve tremendously.... but if you did not aim them low and in a cross pattern.... they may be deadly.

HID only belong in a projector... IMO

Yeah that happened to me in my 91 SE-R I was goin 50mph and the same situation so I just bent the radiator support back and it took some hammering to get the latch for the hood just right but she was fine.

Depending on how fast you were going you should prob make sure you didnt bend the frame cause if you did then your screwed and get a diff car you could get it bent back but to much money. but from the looks of the pics you most likely didnt.

From the looks of it your bumper cover and fender are fine. Now i dont konw about the paint but I am sure you can do it for under 1000 it doesn't take much.

I fixed my supposed $3400 repair for $650 and insurance gave me 600 for it so thats pretty good

How much is insurance giving you for the salvage?
for a good radiator for cheap you can get one from http://www.partstrain.com/ but I wouldn't suggest the fan and shroud cause they don't fit right. and the return department sucks.

good luck, hope I helped

Sorry, for the loss but I am sure the Air bag did not blow out and the car should not be totaled. I am sure your going to have a salvaged title, but the car doesn't look that bad, but the fenders are not bent thats the good news plus the car will need a new hood, lights, bumper, grille and radiator supports and straighten the front beam that the radiator is hooked on. (don't know whats the named of it) The paint will need to be done to the bumper if your gong to re-use it. The bumper looks ok and check for any kinds of damage on the frame. This route will be better than buying a new or used car hoping that there is no major damage to it.

Sorry I haven't replied in awhile

To answer everyone's questions-
Yes, that is a part of the deer.
I was doing around 60 mph and nearly split him in half. His life ended quick and painless.
The fender is slightly bowed and because it is a structural part of the front end it will need to be replaced (I did not know this, but it is a good point to everyone to stick with OEM quality parts and no fiberglass)
The buy back price was $930
The insurance company will pay the bank off first to cover what's left on my loan and I will need a personal loan to pay for the repairs. I know that sounds like a stupid thing to do, but the rate is the same as an auto loan and it will knock off a few thousand of what I owed.
I know cars are never the same after any kind of accident, but it will still be a solid D.D. and this will make it easier to get a Z in few years
I would love to save some money and do all work myself but I don't have the time or experience.
I still haven't decided on the headlights, but am leaning toward R34s non-HID and doing a retro next spring or summer.

parting out?

Very glad you are ok bro seriously and I'm sorry about the car too...really.

Now I have to ask you, ....did you get to keep the venison.?...and will you part out the liver and loin chops?......great with onions...:}

...back to serious, you may want to part out the car too and just invest in a new one. V

Wow. That sucks. Go R34 even if you cant retro right away. They are just dang nice.

But it doesnt compare to what my friends grandpa did. He was in an F250 King Ranch and totalled it. He hit a horse doing 60 on a dirt road, IIRC.

do what i did when i hit a deer, mine was sorta like that except on the drivers side my hood was like yours and both fenders and airbags blew,
i got a gtr steering wheel, r34 h/l, z3 fenders, bodykit, new pass airbag, and a hood for around 1200.00 bucks, then the rdiator and supports made it about 2 g's so buy it back and fix i, how much does it cost to buy it back??

Sorry to hear about your Max.

Looks like insurance company will total it, and the buy back price is not bad. Perhaps buy it back and parts it out.

Good luck.

That damage looks familiar - feel your pain. I had one do $4400 in damage, surprising that they didn't total the car.

How much are you buying the car back from them for?

I fcking hate deer, seems like I literally almost hit them two or three times a week in my rural area. I seriously wish they'd go extinct. Worthless animals if you ask me. They're big mosquitos.

Thanks for all the support guys, glad to know people out their as compassionate as me about cars. My friends and family just don't understand how this hurts and sucks so much. I'm keeping the car and going to order the R34s in the next few days. I don't don't want to go too crazy with visual mods because I don't really like them much. Thanks again guys!!
