Ignition Switch How to
Ignition Switch How to
Anybody have a writeup or know where to find one on how to replace the ignition switch?
I checked all the fuses, replaced the starter but it still won't start. In fact, it won't even turn over so i'm thinking it's just the ignition switch. I read about on other cars there's also a neutral safety switch that could cause the car not to start but i haven't heard that being a problem with 4th gens?

if its the neutral safety switch, have you tried starting it in neutral?
the ignition switch takes like a couple minutes to change, its under the steering column cover..i forgot exactly how it goes in there but it was fairly simple..i did it a long long time ago.

2 screws, remove lower dash on driver's side.
2 bolts, remove crash reinforcement bar.
6 screws, remove upper and lower covers around steering column.
2 screws and a harness connector, take out the old ignition switch, put in the new.
It's rather simple.

i just took mine out yesterday, very easy to do, i say about 15mins.first start out removing the plastic piece that has the fuse block cover on it(not sure what you call it but it's below the steering wheel), there's two screws on each side on the bottom. next remove the metal bracket thats under the steering 10mmsocket works great(makes it easy to remove back screws on the steering wheel column covers) then just remove the plastic covers around the steering wheel column, should be 6 screws. once you get that far discount the negitive lead from the battery. all you got left is taking the ignition switch out which is on the left side of the steering wheel. remove 2 screws holding it on(the back screw is not fun, use a little thumb screw driver), and your done.
Here's a good thread on the subject....
