Just as the topic states, I woke up this morning to find out that my hand brake froze, had to disassemble the rear caliper to get it working, but have to replace it now(froze permanently... ). So is the only way to leave the car in 1st gear or there is any other way?Thank you.

I had the same thing on my passenger side rear caliper, it kept happening and I kept massaging the cable in the rubber to make it let go. One night it was exceptionally cold and the thing wouldn't unfreeze after I stopped at a cvs..drove a bit thought it would warm up and let go..nada. Rotor was burning red..ended up getting pissed off and sawing the cable off right then and there..ever since then..1 has no cable. It's expensive piece.
