Need help: How to remove this?

I removed the top vent and planning to replace it. Now I need to remove the hazard and defog buttons, but I can't get them out!

Is there any tricks to remove them? Are they suppose to slide out to the front? Or slide to the back?

Thanks.

There should be clips. Depress the clips, hope to God nothing breaks. That's about all you can do.

you gotta press like hell to get em out .... did mine not too long ago and yes, they are a beast to get out. (look for the very small black clip on the side and try to pry it under the lip a bit - makes it easier.)

Use two flat heads on either side. Works like a charm.

Ok guys. Thanks for your help/information. I got them loose.

Once I know which way they go out, it is easier. I used a small flat head to jam into the non-clip side, force it into the "tunnel", then tilt and hold it there, then used a bigger flat head to push in the clip on the other end. Both came out easily.
