Daytime Running Light Console - $300?

Hi, for those of you in Canada, your maxima will have one of these... apparently I need one to fix my headlight issue, where the left headlight won't work but the daytime running light will. I've made sure the bulb isn't burnt because when i give the headlight a light hit, the light comes on, and will go off when it wants to. It is not a connection issue because my friend's already told me he's seen this... and it's the console, he works at a nissan dealership's service department, but I'm positive he's not bull****tin.

So, basically, wondering if anyone has hit this problem before.

And a side Q, anyone have a parts dealer in Vancouver, Canada for their max that has been pretty good for them?

I"m just wondering a few things... what kind of bulbs you are using? Overwattage or regular?
-does the drl control unit make a buzzing noise when your bulb is not connected?
-have you checked the harness for "melting issues"?

if you're talking about the left side as in driver side, and hitting the light causes it to flicker or turn on, its not likely the DRL, its a bad connection/bulb/harness, the left headlight is no where close to the DRL unit, and your left side headlight IIRC isn't even run through the DRL, just the highbeam is. Let us know how you make out with that info, if you have the FSM its easy to see what I mean throught the wiring diagrams.

is it the driverside though that you're talking about?

Ya it's the driver's side, and it's fricken annoying because sometimes i'll turn on the light, go out of my car, give it a hit, then go back and drive away just so i have a working headlight lol

well if its the driver side and its the actual low beam(not the DRL) then its not gonna be the DRL unit so don't go buy one, you'll waste your money.
my d/s headlight harness was burnt when I went to swap out for new headlights and harnesses, light still worked, and i had to acually remove the bulb to see the burnt area. This seems to be common on the max's d/s harness, I chalked it up to a bad ground, because the d/s has a separate ground, the p/s doesn't.

yeah, sound exactly like a melted/burned wiring harness.

This is what it looks like, not this color though.

I'm a nissan tech and we do see those DRL control units giving problems but from what you're describing, sounds like a bad connection at the headlight harness.

Check for burnt wiring, or just plain loose wiring. Pull the headlight harness off the headlight bulb and look into the prongs, one of them might have 'opened' up so it only contacts the headlight bulb intermittently.

Well if none of these guys think it's the DRL console the I assume I won't be needing one... ? But if you've got a spoiler LED brake light strip that works that you're willing to part... I'll gladly take that off you... I live in Poco, but I'd be willing to drive around to pick it up unless it's out in the farmlands haha

have you checked that connector in the trunk. Mine corrorded and I just cut it out. Used some quick connects to wire it all together and it worked just fine. Try that first.
