Rear power window DROPS down into the door

My girlfriends 96 Maxima has a new problem.
I'm hoping its a common issue, with an easy fix...so I'm throwin' it to you guys.

The rear power window on the drivers side no longer works. The window drops freely back into the door, and won't come back up. I took the door apart this evening to try to fix it but had a hard time in the dark with just a flashlight and mirror. From what I could tell, there's a cable that coils on a wheel. It lets slack out to lower the window, and tightens the slack to lift it.
The cable seems to have a little "nub" for lack of a better term that I assume should be somehow attached to the window bracket where it rides in the track. Unfortunately, the only time it catches on the window is when the button is pressed to lower the window. When the "nub" reaches where the window bracket is, it forces the window downwards. But when the button is pressed to bring it back up, it doesnt grab the window at all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you need to replace the window regulator. Just the regulator, not the motor.
should be like $20 at a junk yard. It's really easy to replace.

You can use the same motor you have now.
I don't know if there is a write up, but trust me, it's really easy.
Just take off the door panel and you'll see. It's pretty self explanatory.

JoshBarber it's a good thing your girlfriend has all these problems with her Max. Sounds like it probably keeps you busy and out of trouble. LOL

anyone able to get them from a shop like autozone or similar? local AZ charges $45.99 for a new one. if its a common break, I don't think I want to use a junkyard part if I'm taking the time to replace it
