One hot Maxima.

I have had too many problems with my Maxima overheating. I've had it since August and I'm growing tired of having it fixed all the time. I digress.

My Maxima is overheating once again. It has a NEW radiator and thermostat with only 3k miles on them. I replaced the leaking radiator to fix the problem. I was told by my Dad that the thermostat should always be replaced after your car is fixed for overheating.

I have looked at the two fans that are by my radiator. I do know that the fans come on after the coolant tempature hits 205 degrees. One of my fans comes on when I turn on the air conditioning. The other one stays off unless I bump it with a stick, in which it starts spinning. But when it spins it doesn't spin as fast as the fan on the driver's side. I'm guessing that this could be the problem. But I need your opinions. I'm really at a loss, and to be honest I'm tired of dealing with this. Any helpful advice would be appreciated.

Fans and/or relays need checking. Where's the hot races?

hahahaha "bump it with a stick"

one of my fan motors broke and I drove without a driver side fan for a couple months...i didnt see any difference in the temperature. a buddy of mine in his 5th gen was having over heating problems and he replaced the whole fan/motor assembly and it fixed the problem immediately.

Get a pair of fans from the junkyard or some1 on the org. www.car-part.com is your friend too. Report back to us after that. It should fix it.

i think only 1 fan spins when you turn on the AC normally anyway. if youre overheating while driving, the fans arent the cause. it sounds to me like you have something more serious ie:bad water pump or blocked coolant passage

I was thinking it was the relays. But Dasyears brought up some possibilities too. Hopefully it is just the relay switch, that'd be an easy way out. When the car moves the tempature goes down, when it sits it goes up. Which is typical of a car that is overheating of course.

I might have to as a last resort. But when I spray the connections the fan works better. So I'm thinking it may be more of an electric problem like a relay.

Theres so many variables in this, you can have a bad thermostate, even thought you replaced it. I would check by starting up the car on a day that it has never been started or driven. Turn the climate control to Heating postion than check the gauge and the heater, If it blows cold that means thats a bad thermostate. The fan part I would check the relay and the switches. I think it's your theromstate thats opened.

I checked that the day that it overheated. That wasn't the problem. I sprayed my connections and it isn't running hot anymore. I think this is a case of electrolysis. All I'm going to do for now is spray it when the engine starts running hot because as a college student I don't have the money to replace parts. But if this will get me by for now then this may be the best way to deal with this problem.

Maybe check the coolant sending unit, it could just be sending the wrong signal / read out to your gauges.

Check upper and lower rad hoses, are they about roughly the same temp?

Maybe your water pump failed and its just not making any noises...yet.
