Gut Check

The Max has 178810 miles on it, and I just put new winter tires on yesterday. New exhaust (OEM parts) installed this month too, and water pump last week.

Today
I slide under to have a look at replacing the shifter bushing.

I find:
1) Leaky rear main seal (10hr job)
2) Power steering fluid leaking from the PS rack (10 hr job)

and when I go to remove the shifter bushing the rusted-*** nuts/bolts holding it to the car decide to break loose and start turning. So now I need to cut both of those nuts apart and try to get the damn thing loose. I'm taking a break at the moment.

So after spending a grand this month I need to spend all day with a dremel or drill or both under the car to finish this damn bushing job and then I'll have the big jobs to look forward to.

Oh, and my radiator support is getting pretty bad. Merry Christmas to me.

Dave

I feel you. After almost a year with no maintainence required (other than oil changes) I find myself needing:

-ABS Sensor
-Rear Calipers + Pads
-Spark Plugs
-Fuel Filter
-Shifter Bushing
-CV Boots
-Gear Oil

I am right about to hit 118,000 miles and the last 10,000 miles have been trouble free. Now comes the fun stuff. Oh, and my rear main seal is leaky too, but it doesn't have me worried. No oil is dripping or anything.

But a quick question about your shifter bushing...how did you know that you needed to change yours? Mine makes a rattling noise on occasion while accelerating...and it feels like there is too much play with the shifter. What were your symptoms.

Right now my maxima is suffering a similar thing as well. I wish the fixes could come more regular. Good luck with the fixes.

It just seemed to be getting softer. As in I could feel a little more mushiness in the shifter.

After all that work I got the bushing replaced and guess what - the old one was pretty ugly, but perfectly fine.

Where do I start, Let's see I will need all 4 new brake pads, Oil change,Coolant flush,Tranny flush, If that does not work I will be instore for a new radiator. I just installed a new very much needed battery. I will need a new rack and opionion, because It's leaking and It might get worse. I will need a new exhaust sooner or later so yea, Everyone have a Merry Christmas and a Happy NewYear.

^^^^ big deal, most of the stuff your talkin about is basic maintenence. my racks been leaking for like 2 years, a line is dripping power steering fluid on the brand new lca's i just did last summer. and your exhaust stuff is cheap too, so id say you got it easy holmes. i got at least 1,500 to 2,000 worth of $hit to do and the other orger's gotabout the same. where as i could do the repairs on your car for like 5-700.00.

Big deal.....Yes this is a big deal I have done all this stuff already and I will have to do it again and I payed $280.00 for this job already.(coolant) (tranny) flush. I am now bone dry so I will have to wait for some money. So I can start the much needed work.
