Stillen intake or JWT??? help!!!

O.k. I know that this subject has been beat to death. I use the search function and it was insightful. But I need your help. I have a 98 se and I was wondering whether I should spend $185 for the Stillen or the $100 for the JWT. I think from previous posts that I searched, they give a little bit of hp gains but do they both sound the same. Also, there is such negative reaction to buying from stillen. Such I buy from their website. I read that the service is horrible. Where should I buy from? Couresty???So a little help would be appericated. Thanks

They both do the same thing. Get the JWT. Why do people not like to buy from Stillen? Cause... why buy something for $185 when you can get it for $100 and it does the same thing. Stillen has over-inflated prices.

Is the filter on the JWT a high quality filter? Should I get a K&N in place of that? Thanks.

If you buy a JWT and then replace the filter with K&N, you'll be paying $100 for a metal ring and a mounting bracket... Just stick with the filter that comes with JWT, its not K&N name brand, but its pretty damn close...

If you live in areas that require inspections/smog checks, the Stillen comes with a CARB ceritifcation sticker so that you are exempt. Otherwise, most smog shops around where I live won't pass me and make me go home, takie out the JWT, and put back in the stock air box.

I have the JWT, but feel that Stillen has a better bracket to hold the filter up where the air box used to be. The JWT bracket that holds up the filter is kinda weak. But for the $80 savings... it's up to you...

BTW, does anybody have a copy of their Stillen intake CARB paperwork they can email/fax me? Thanks.

Hi, I'm about to get a JWT from someone that has a 97 max. I've got a 96 max. Will it fit, I heard tha there is an air temp sensor or osmething like that inside the stock airbox that i must somehow mount onto the filter. Anyone know anything about this? thanx.

I think the bracket holds up pretty well. If anything, just go to Home Depot or any hardware store and get another bracket for $3 at the most.

And as for the temp sensor, I just pulled my JWT apart and slide the temp sensor inside. Giving it enough slack to move around just a little, but tight enough not to bounce around so much that it will damage it. I've had no problems in the 1 year that I've had it.

Hey, if you just want a good high flow intake why buy either?...

Just buy a universal high flow filter and adapter plate. It will add you the same amount of power for $50 installed. I know APC and Arospeed have them, and most shops have them in stock. Save the money, because you shouldn't expect either to give you more than 3 horsepower on a mostly stock engine (which mine completely is). But do whatever makes you feel better - maybe just putting a JWT or Stillen sticker on your car makes you happy (Not trying to be an *sshole).

Nooooooooooooooooooooooo.... stickers=hp!

My toolbox must have a least 100 hp extra from all those stickers I put on it by now!

A Stillen or JWT filter is larger then those "generic" rips off's and has a velocity stack to increase flow, may only be slight but it will pay off later.....

Re: Stillen intake or JWT??? help!!!

I installed JWT intake in my Infiniti. I feel like my car lags then the power kicks in later. Does anyone knows what's wrong? Thanks.

Probably an auto....and beisdes that an intake is adding high end HP so you may loose slight low end. This lack of power you "feel" may very well be your butt dyno........

Yeah, if you have an auto then the CIA is better. With a 5spd then there is no low end power loss.

How do the smog shops know you have an intake on? Do they actually open the hood to check?

Really, the CIA is better? I have an automatic so should I use the FBI too?

The stillen is a monster, and I guarantee you will not get the bad *** growl from the knock-off brand. Stillen is expensive and not service orientated but there products are hands down the best for a maxima or any nissan/infinty.

eeeh kinda old thread... anyway,

I have a JWT and it sounds pretty damn loud to me... people have said that if you have an JWT and an exhaust installed, all you hear above 3k rpms is the intake, cuz its 10x louder than the exhaust...

Yeah, exhaust will also be a factor in sound. I'm looking forward to upgrading my ECU. Have you done that?
