Will new all season tires get me through the winter?

I was shopping around for snow tires (on rims) and the Artic Alpin & Yokohama Gaurdex both look pretty good, but close to $500 is a lot of money.

The tires on the car now are Cooper Cobra Radial GT all seasons (215/55R16) and are almost new. Will these get me through the winter? I can always get snow tires next year after I wear these down a little or when I decide to get a high performance summer only tire.

BTW - I live in new england and my last FWD car (Ford Escort ) did great in the snow with all-seasons as long as I had newish ones on the front.

I grew up in New Hampshire.....and if you got skills in the snow, snow tires are for your moms car. You should be fine with your new tires.

If you don't feel confident, spend the extra cash and get the new tires. Or save your $ and just spend a day in an empty parking lot with your FWD Max and learn how to manuver....just my 2 cents...

They are "ALL SEASON" and almost new, so what are you worried about?

Big difference here folks....the Escort was good int he snow because the tires were thin....what like 125 or something....the Max withit's wide 215/55R16 will sit on the snow....
I hated the stock Eagles in the winter, and bought M+S tires for the winter months.
Then again, you New Englanders ahve more experience driving in the snow....
Just my 2 cents.

I am in Ma. No problems with those tires for ya but just remember, even though they are new tires that doesnt mean you should be any dumber when it comes to the snow then if they were bald. Take the snow easy, respect it, and you will be fine.

Hey guys, I think we're all forgetting that's it not how well we drive, it's the OTHER guy we have to watch out for, especially those who are "invinscible" with 4wd. If I need snows on all 4 corners to give me any extra edge to protect my 17K baby from those idiots I think it's a small price to pay.
