Check engine light on - code P0138

Which oxygen sensor do I need to replace? I looked under the car, and there are two sensors. One is towards the front of the car, at the beginning of the cat and the other one is on top of the cat, about midway.

Also, how can I clear the check engine light after replacing the sensor.

Thanks in advance

Someone will correct me if I am wrong but I don't think there is a code 0138. You may have several codes and did not separate the long pauses from the short pauses. To clear the check engine light you turn the screw on the ECU clockwise til it stops wait 2 seconds and turn it back to the left til it stops and wait 2 seconds and repeat. Let me know if you need more info as to where the ECU is.

P1038 is a generic DTC code: O2 Sensor Circuit High Volts (Bank 1 Sensor 2). What year is your max? I know only 1997 model year and I think it refers to the down stream O2 sensor (after the CAT).

Sorry, I read it too fast. I thought that was the code that you pulled from the ECU counting the SES light. Yeah it is the rear O2 sensor. P0138 0510 Rear HO2S.

Does anyone ever get the SES light to turn off permanently through repairs? or is it a constant thing...
