Okay, I searched and searched and figured out how to read and diagnose the codes and did so. I had two, Knock Sensor and Rear Heated O2 Sensor. The KS seems straight forward enough, but I can't find ANYWHERE where the Rear Heated O2 Sensor is located. Any help or link would be GREATLY appreciated.

For the rear heated O2 are you referring to code 0902?

 

Actually it came up 07 07 I had 03 04 for the KS and 07 07 for Rear Heated O2 Sensor.

 

Location depends on the year of your car. 95-96 it's located in the side of the cat converter, and 97+, it's shortly after the cat:

 

Sorry, I should have posted that. Mine is a 97. Thanks. I have a new O2 sensor in the glove box from the guy who had it before. Are all three O2 sensors interchangeable or do I need a specific one for that rear one??

hey i dont have that pipe between cat and b-pipe i have a welded straight pipe with no resonator where can i put the sensor i have a engine light or how can i shut off engine light to pass inspection

 

The front sensors are interchangeable, but the rear is different. I bought mine from www.oxygensensors.com. It seems like that's generally the best/cheapest place to buy them.

there are o2 simulators that you can use for that. I don't know where to buy them though. you might be able to grab one if you put an ad in the classifieds on this site.

So, the ONLY O2 Sensor called "Rear Heated O2 Sensor" is the one after the cat on my 97? What are the other two called? Also, how tough are the other two to install? I have an extra for one of the pre-cat ones, apparently one is much more difficult to install, so he just skipped it. Thanks again.

 

the other two, I just call them the front o2 sensors, but they're technically referred to as bank 1 and bank 2. they can be kind of annoying to install, particularly if you have a stock y pipe because there will be less working room. I changed mine when I had the stock Y and the only thing that worked was an open end wrench and a hammer. The o2 sensor socket was useless; i couldn't even get it up there. Code 0707 indicates that the rear o2 sensor (the one after the cat) needs to be replaced.

 

Thanks, strange thing is, the guy replaced the rear one not long ago. Luckily he still has the receipt from Advance, so hopefully they'll honor the one year warranty even though ownership has been changed. We'll see.

 

I just got the dreaded SES light on, throwing code 0707. Rear heated 02 sensor. Do I need to change this thing? What's the draw back of not changing it, i.e fuel economy, etc, etc... I live in Florida, so no need to worry about inspection.

 

It has zero affect on anything, really. All it's there for is to monitor catalyst efficiency.

 

Good to hear, I'll just spend the money on other stuff for the car. I just hate to see that light on though.

 

Hey guys I got the same code (0707)along with 0307 knock sensor for my other 96 maxima.

Will the rear o2 sensor make the car hesitate and buck every time you step on the gas cause thats what mine is doing.

I have a 99 and I have codes 0707 and 0510 which both indicate rear O2. Should I replace and see if it solves my issues? It says that the 0510 could be caused by some other things but since I am getting both codes, I am leaning to the O2 sensor being bad. Any thoughts?
