On-board computer code 6-3-4

Been having engines sputtering and the suspect a failing ignition coil.

Service Engine Soon light came on and finally the OB computer provided a cose albeit one confusing one.

6-3-4.

I know 6-3 is cylinder six misfiring but 6-3-4

Any ideas?

Are you using a scanner to read the codes? They should be P Codes.
P0603 is cylinder #6 misfire.

The misfire P codes start at P0608 for cylinder #1 and go down to P0603 for cylinder #6 misfire. Go back and read the codes again, I think your missing something.

No I'm using the OB computer using a screwdriver.

I think its time to invest in a proper scanner.

Where in Canada can I get one other than the Nissan dealer?

You don't need the scanner, read the codes again.
They are displayed is a series of long and short flashes. Long flashes first followed by short flashes. The code is 4 digits long, example 6 long flashes followed by 3 short flashes is code 0603. If there are mutiple codes, a short pause will follow each code. Read them again and post what your results.

took it in to shop and a scan indicated Cylinder 3 misfiring.

Don't have Haines manual now, but it that 06-03?

REally pissed off at shop. charging flat $90 rate minimum and $100 for scan.

What is the typical labor for this job? 1/2 hour or hour?

I have searched but cannot locate the readup on changin ignition coil.

Could try myself one day.

P0303 is cyl 3 misfire.

We can only tell you the shop hourly rate for it if we know what the problem is. Could be ignition coil, plug, injector, harness for either, ECU, etc etc.

What year do you have?

Changing coilpacks takes one minute; two bolts and a harness clip. Cyl #3 is right bank, center.

Cylinder 3 was changed and the guy charged me "only" half hour this time, last time Cylinder 6 was one hour or $90.

1998 Maxima GXE.

So you say only couple of minutes?.....

I couldn't find the "How-to.." here otherwise I could have done myself, BOTH times.

What do you mean he changed the cylinder? Did he change the coilpack?

There's really no need for a howto at all...you take out two bolts, unclip one harness connector, and there you go. R&R, then reverse the removal steps.

Attached picture, bolts are in green and harness connectors in red.

SOrry to bring this up from the dead, but since I can't start threads, this was my only option.

I got a P0603, and the description at AutoZone said "Internal Control Module Keep Alive Memory (KAM) Error". But people on here are saying it is a cylindar issue? When I google it, it looks like it is a memory issue because the battery was dead for a couple months, BTW, it is an 06 SE.

I believe P0603 is a generic code used by the scan tools. The code 0603 related to cylinder #6 is the ECU code specific to the Max. They may have the same number, but different meaning.
