a couple questions regading door switches and led'ing them

the fronts i got done no problem. the rears were another story. the have a samll surface mount led that is impossible to remove. i did get 1 to work but it s just not up to my standards. i remember seeing pictures of rear switches with a bulb rather than the smt led. i'm assuming they are from an earlier model (mine is a 98). my question is can somebody confirm a year of the bulb style, and are they interchangable (i.e. 95 switch in a 98).

different years had differnt bulbs. i forget when it was changed. the surfce mounted leds require some creativity.

i don't think the switches are interchangeable. early 4th gens had leds in the rear that look kinda like the ones in the front, whereas the late 4th gens have surface mount leds.

i did leds in my window switches a long time ago, so if i'm rememctlybering corre, i htink thats the way it is. i've done a set from both types. replacing the regular leds are straight forward. on the surface mount led, you have to heat the solder and carefully pry away at it, i think there's 4 contact points. you have to use 2 contacts that are diagnonal from each other if you're putting in your own led (i don't remember which ones sorry). and make sure contacts aren't in contact with each other.

I guess I took the easy way out and solder on a 5mm LED's on top of the original one and the current just lights up my custom LED and not the stock one. To me, that was the easiest way. There are 4 points on the stock one, you just got to match up the proper two and you are set.

You should be able to wire in the 95-97 switch or use a door harness from a 95-97 but i'm not sure how the wires differ.

Maybe for the i30 but not the maxima.

The fronts are the same for 95-98 and possibly 99.
The rears are different. Theres ones that fit 95-97 and others that fit 98 and possibly 99. I have never owned a 99 so i have no first hand knowledge.
Heres some pictures.

I'm not sure if the 95-97 door harness will match up with the 98 body harness. I do have both so i will check.

the 95-97 are different than the 98-99 I just tried to swap they will not work. The earlier one has 9 wires the later has 8. You have to go with posts 4 & 5 as the best methods..

one of the switches work fine, on the other i fried a resistor. i could probably salvage it but i'm kind of **** about stuff like this. i will most likely be going the 95-96 route.

There's a write-up for rear window switches with the surface mount LEDs (1999 Maximas at least, maybe 98s and 97s too?) here: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/624467/2

I'm following it but the smt LED would not come off easily so I sort of mangled it and scraped it off. My question is, I know the new LED is supposed to be attached to the upper left (+) and lower right (1) of the four contacts, if you're looking at it like this:

Are the two on either side the same? Because I found it hard to avoid contacting both and I sort of assumed the two on the left were + and the two on the left were -.

Also, someone mentioned bypassing these contacts altogether (maybe in another thread). How would I do that?
