Slippin Auto Trans

I get in my car in the mornin and let it warm up(at least 1-2 mins). When I begin to take off I get a hard jerk from the tranny when it shifts. This morning while at a light. The light turns green, I gas it and the engine revs but the car did go anywhere. Is my tranny on its way out or is this just a direct result of the 7 degree mornings here?

Have you checked your fluid level, condition?

Stock trans cooler or an additional aftermarket one?

I had a similar problem in my 99 q45 and I was able to take care of the problem with some transtune and a drain and refill. This was about four months ago and the transmission is still working fine.

Just pour around 6oz of Seafoam Transtune into your atf ,drive the car around for a few days and then drain and fill the transmission fluid. I drove the car around for about 300 miles before doing the fluid change.

make sure your ATF is at level, if you haven't checked it in a long time, it is most likely low. aslo, when was the last time you changed your ATF?

you can try the tranny seafoam; also try lucas oil for aotu trannies.

how many miles on the tranny?

Make sure I got the process down?
1. Drain tranny
2. Fill with seafoam
3. Drive 300 miles
4. Drain Seafoam
5. Fill with Lucas oil
If I have any of this wrong correct me. Thanks

Do not fill tranny with Seafoam. Just add 6oz as stated to the original tranny oil. Drive around for around 200 miles. Drain old tranny oil and refill with new stuff. No need to add lucas oil. Its just an alternative to seafoam transtune. It would aslo be a good idea to get a tranny oil cooler to lengthen the life of your tranny if the drain and refill solves your problem.
P.S. Use the right seafoam stuff...dont add the stuff that's for carbon buildup.
For more info on transmission oils and such check out the fluids and lubricants forum. Good luck.

If you live in the east coast, you don't need a cooler. Coolers provide protection in hot ambients like CA, NV, AZ, TX etc. Actually coolers in colder places aggravates all kinds of jerking problems, the tranny needs to come up to a respectable temp to function correctly.

I had a a Hayden for a yr and in the CA winters it was horrible to get a good shift. I promptly removed it.

I would dump TransTune into the tranny, run it for 1000 miles, dump the ATF from the pan and refil. This results in half the transtune still in the TC which is what actually recommended by the product.

I don't get the problem when the car is up to temp. So your right.
I'll get this done this weekend and let everyone know how I come out. Thanks.

I've had a Hayden cooler for 2 years now and no problems in the winter (knocks on wood). Although with my setup the tranny oil probably reaches higher temps. Perhaps you're right about not having a cooler if the rest of your tranny is stock.

ok pretty much a terrible idea here...but I used to start the car about 5-10 minutes before leaving in the morning. I'd put the car in drive, or reverse, and yank the e-brake. by letting it sit there in gear, you warm up the trans more than if its just in park. shifts were smoother, and the torque converter would actually lock in now!

in the end, I found the best solution...and got a 5 spd
