engine is ****ed. car for sale i guess
so my car wouldn't start today. I brought it to the shop, after trying forever with the tow truck guy, it made a crazy popping noise, as a bunch of smoke poured out. awesome. brought it to two places, they both said i need a new engine. so i guess i'm going to get it towed to my house to sell. just bummed out is all.
thanks for listening

No I want to sell it as is. asking 1500 obo. the car looks great and interior is still great. sucks for me i guess. too bad, i just put a bunch of money into it, like new rotors and pads and new tires.

Did the shops really do a diagnostic? Or were they too lazy or stumped that they resort to replacing the engine?
It's like, your software crashes. Do you try to figure it out? Or just hit reset?

no the popping was in the engine, the smoke came from the inside of the engine, they told me how much it would cost for them to take apart the engine, and its not worth it anymore. i've poured so much money into this car just to make it decent.

so u dont have any family memebrs or a credit card or anything that can help you just throw a new motor in instead? like dude above said you can find a motor itself for like $300 assuming you dont have the means to put it in yourself find a decent mechanic to do it for you and keep the car. Your going to be missing out on bigtime cash just because of things you dont want to deal with..

Dont sell your max, put an engine in it! I'm no professional mechanic and I can tell that it's very easy to change a VQ engine in a A32 chassis.
Drain all fluids and take out the hood.
Unplug everything!
(This is JClaw and VQ'ed, from L. to R.)
Jack the front and take out the wheels, axles and the y-pipe.
Tie the engine with a big chain from the passenger motor mount to a trany screw. Apply some tention on the chain and unscrew the 4 motor mount.
Then pull it out!
(Hey, it's me!)
Done! It take about 5 hours.
Try to find some help on the board to help you a weekend.
Maybe someone have a little place for you.
It wont cost that much and it will be very rewarding!

To each his own, but you profit so much more by replacing the engine and then selling the car, or keeping the car after a replacement.
But if you do insist on selling it as is, a part out benefits you(if you have the time and the knowledge to remove the parts). You get more money in the long run.
I have done engine swaps and its a great move. based on your current vehicles body condition, its almost like buying a new used car. And all the money that you say you put into it is still there. If you sell then its a loss.. IMHO G/L in whatever you choose.

New engine = Almost new car. Do the engine swap. We dont need another maxima off the road. Really, rent a engine lift, get a shop manual and have at it. If all the problems you have been having come from the engine, problem solved with a swap. Plus if you keep the old engine, you will have extra parts if something goes wrong latter on down the road.

I mean, the car has a salvage title. i would do a vq35 swap, but I would rather just be done with it. Im so sick of all the problems it has caused me, I mean, I loved it when it was running well. I put a deposit down on a 2002 IS300. 5 spd, graphite grey with black interior. its newer and its expensive, but I'm ready to move on. Thanks for everyones help. It might be sold today, but if anyone is still interested , PM me.

^ jackal, at least make the guy feel better by saying something like: oh man tough luck, if you want you can make some money by selling parts and save for another 4th gen, but no, you go straight for the ..."what mods have you got" geeeeeeees
