Little box connected the battery positive
Little box connected the battery positive
There is a little box connected to the positive cable on the battery. It just kinda slides right into it and i'm not sure if it's the standard or is it something to do with the remote start. Any ideas? My battery keeps dieing and i cant figure out what is. HELP!!!
He's talking about the red connector leeds that run from the battery terminal. Those are normal, do not disconnect those unless you are tracing a short.
If your battery is dying, then it is most likely your alternator or a belt. Next time when you charge your battery(ALL THE WAY at a shucks/autozone), start it and run it for a while. If your brake light and battery light are on, it's your alty.
more details will help though.

My brake and alty light are not on. I know that because it happened to me before and i had to replace the alty. WTF, could it be? My car is old with 194,000 miles and it has seen much better days.
EDIT: By the way when i start my car in the cold i hear a squeaking belt. Is that the serpentine belt or no?
EDIT: This only happens when my car sit for a long time. That's it.

The squeak might be the serpentine belt, which as you probly know are pretty easy to tighten. I figured that since you are a regular, you knew what to look for with the alty problem(unless your brake light or battery light on the dash is burned out). Have you checked the voltage with your car running and when it's off?
If it isn't alty, it sounds like you have a drain somewhere... someone else may have some good suggestions as to how to trace it.

OK, i just got back from autozone and i have a new battery, BUT! When i went to attach it to the positive cable i was getting little sparks. Now we all know now that SOMETHING is definately pulling from my battery but what.
What is the first step in determining what is pulling from my battery beings it could be MANY things? I really need help here. It's not like there is a diagnostic computer that would point right to it at the local shop.

??? Completing a circuit will cause sparks... sounds normal, as your alarm and keyless system will continue to be in use. if you want, unplug a leed then the other from that red plug you mentioned and see if you "don't get sparks" when you connect the battery.
how do your cables look? what about the contacts? that's the first thing i would check.

no,no, My car is definately draining the battery overnite. It's done it for a week now and i went through 2 batteries already. Anyone? I need some real help here. I have to disconnect the battery every night to prevent this from happening. All this god dam snow isn't helping either.
keneda: I dont think that matters because my bettery is being drained overnite.

Cant you go through the fuse panel and remove fuses one at a time, with the car off and see where there is a draw with a volt meter? I would look into that. For some reason, Im thinking its the belt, the alty or your battery. Keep us posted.
people keep saying the belt but what belt is it and how in the world would a belt drain the battery?
Dude...this is f*kn funny!!! On my lunch break, I was driving and suddenly, all my lights dim, radio shuts off and airbag light comes on. I turned my headlights off and things started to get better. I thought, "easy...its the battery." I drove right then and there to sears cause I knew once I turned my car off, it wouldnt start again. Put the new battery and thought I was good.
Thats when I posted in your thread. Well, wouldnt you know it...on my way home, it does the same thing and I have a new battery. Now, Im thinking alternator. No dummy lights are coming on, though. Is it coincidence that I changed my belt on Friday night? Its not loose...maybe its too tight? Is that possible?
The belt peeps are talking about, search for it, you'll find it. Its located on the passenger side of the engine bay and its pretty obvious. Stand over your motor on the passenger side, shine a flashlight and look down, youll see it. If it is your belt, dont worry, its easy to change with simple hand tools.
Now I gotta figure out what my deal is. Im guessing its my alternator but...imma search a little bit and see what others have said in the past with this similar problem.

Your problem definately sound like the alty. If you're losing power while ur driving, i would have to say it is the alty.
Damnit. Why do things like this happen together? The belt went on Friday, now suddenly the alternater. Grrr...I hope youre wrong. Maybe overtightening the belt messed something up. Otherwise, new alt, here I come. But why no battery light?
Anyway, good luck...and yeah, its the serpentine belt also known as the accesory belt or alternater belt. GL!!

I'm just gonna let you know:
You will always get "little sparks" when you complete the circuit on a car(on or off). So was your battery dead? load testing fine? Just cause those morons at autozone tell you that you need one, it may not be true. It could be a number of things at this point, but seriously take a hard look at your terminals and cables... I had ones that looked okay but had a weak/shorted connection that wouldn't let me start my vehicle. After I replaced them, it started perfectly and never acted dead.

My uncle jumped my car and i immediately took it to autozone. He ran a diagnostic on my battery and said it was totally dead(which i already figured). He said he could charge it and if it took the charge i would have to keep it but if it didn't he could replace it. I waited for about 30 minutes and he told me it wouldn't charge(which i figured also because it wouldn't charge in my car)so he gave me a new one.
I couldn't do anything today because we have been getting HAMMERED with snow. I just let the car sit with the positive cable disconnected so my battery wouldn't drain.
I understand your point but NEVER when i installed a new battery did i get a spark like i'm getting currently. A little spark i could understand but when i touch the positive cable to the post u can clearly see the spark. It's like something is trying to jump up and GRAB power from my battery.
Well, my remote start/keyless entry was in valet mode. I realised this when i noticed the little blue light stayed solid when i got out of it the other day. Taking it out of valet mode seemed to do the trick. My car started flawlessly this morning without a hick-up. I just don't understand how it got into valet mode or how that kept draining my battery. I'm just happy it's fixed.
Thank's fellas!

Can this box be changed with an aftermarket terminal?
