How much to repaint a rear door and quarter?
How much to repaint a rear door and quarter?
Last Thu I was on the highway at a tricky spot. Basically, two lanes merge into one to the left of my lane, and then some of that traffic wants to change into my lane to either exit or get out of the mess.
So I'm minding my own business, coming into this traffic slowing down, when the guy beside me changes into my lane and rubs the side of his front bumper against the rear driverside door and quarter panel. He says that he got run out of his merge by a truck and couldn't avoid coming into my lane. Whatever.
It's not bad damage just some long scratches into the primer. No metal moved. My max isn't exactly a new pup, and honestly these scratches don't stand out much. So I offered to get an estimate and settle for cash. Of course I plan to pocket the $$.
How much is a fair price for getting a door and quarter repainted? My paint is a pearlescent green.

$300 per panel at an inexpensive shop and a lot more at a large dealership-type owned shop. Don't forget that most good shops blend so that the paint matches, therefore it will cost more than just the 2 panels.
I talked to Tilley (he does Maximas and bodywork) and he figured $700-800. Of course he was talking about blending - you'd need to blend to the driver door, trunk, and roof. Plus my paint is that sparkly stuff that's more difficult to work.
I'll tell the guy $800 and use the money to buy that camera lens I've been wanting.
