Brake problem....PLEASE HELP ASAP

ok....i've got a 99 i30...well the other day my brakes started making a grinding noise. It was only on the pass. front and it only did it after 5min or so of driving. It was not constant more like a metal on metal sound like a warped rotor with a worn pad but the pads weren't even half worn. anyway i replaced the rotors and pads with brand new units and it still does the same thing. My question is what could be causing it to make that noise? stuck caliper? proportioning valve? I really have no idea because there is not that much to brakes but can't seem to figure it out and its embarrassing when driving mainly from 25-65mph and you can hear the noise over the radio. Also it sometimes makes the noise when coasting when not even applying the brake. Any help would greatly be appreciated....thanks

Checked the shields behind the rotor? See if that's rubbing...

It's not the proportioning valve.

First remove the pad and make sure the squealer isn't bent toward the rotor. It should be positioned so that it rubs the rotor when the pad is almost worn out.

Also check the dust shield. If it's bent it will rub.

Last, remove the caliper and rotor. I once got a stone stuck behind my rotor and it made horrible noise until I found it.

ok i've been kicking my butt trying to figure this thing out and finally think i got it.....i found that the dust shield had some circular scratches on it but when i took the caliper off and looked in between the rotor and shield i didn't see anything so i bolted it back up and went for a drive. It was worse than before. so i came back and took everything back apart and found that it was rubbing even more. so i basically cut the bottom half of the shield off and the edge near the knuckle i bent back and it seemed to fit perfect. I haven't tried driving it yet but i will when i go to work at 7am. Has anyone had problems with there dust shields rubbing?

ok im still having the problem even after i removed the dust shield on the pass. side. The sound starts off as a slight hum then after a few hard brakes you can hear a woosh woosh like every time the wheel completes a rotation. I just put new rotors and pads on it and i don't believe its the wheel bearing because there is no play and i recently did those within the past 20k miles or so. Could it maybe be a stuck caliper? that is the only other thing i can think of unless somehow the axle maybe got bent slightly. The calipers are original and the car has 106k. on the chassis. what do you all think?

You only changed the front passender side rotor? Did you clean off the protective coating with brake cleaner? Did you use a correct size rotor? Were your previous brake pads worn incorrectly indicating a stuck or defective caliper?

Not insulting your intelligence or anything, just starting with the very basic easy stuff that might have got missed.

oh yea no problem.....yea i replaced both sides along with new pads....the olds pads looked fine, just a little glazed from some heavy braking on the track. Now it did make the same noise with the old pads/rotors which leads me to believe that it is something other than the pads and rotors. Yes i sprayed both rotors with brake cleaner and wiped them down before installing them. As far as the size....I work at Olympus auto parts and pull the number out of the comp. from a 99 I30.

I'm actually having the same exact problem on my girlfriend's Maxima. All the calipers have been tested and they all work when pumping the brakes.

I've changed the brakes on my own plenty of times so I know I'm doing it right too. For some reason the brakes feel like they're still dragging.

Could be a wheel bearing, I had one go out on my silverado and I thought the breaks were squeaking, tried to fix them a few times before I figured out the problem. Grab the top and bottom of the tire and try to rock it in and out when the wheel is off the ground.

I hope you are not using aftermarket brakes from places like autozone
