5 speed swap aftermath...

So i did the 5 speed swap with an VLSD trans back in the fall.. now i have a few questions...

1) Im using all stock hardware.. but i get a lot of vibration and noise coming from the shifter (STOCK) i have a brand new shifter busing.....

2) after the swap i also got a lot of engine vibrations as well, the mounts look good but i did remove the engine cradle since i decided to replace the rear main seal the correctly way by dropping the oil pans


so if anybody has any clues please chime in...

Seems normal to me...... Are you getting these vibrations when the car is under load, when accelerating, in neutral? You gotta remember that you are going to have a drastic change from when it was an auto. Having a cable connected to your shifter as apposed to rods, will reduce noise and vibrations. Just make sure that both rods are tight on both ends. Going into the tranny and to the shifter Time for ES mounts .......

If it's only doing it under load, I'd guess mounts. If it's under braking, I'd say brakes. Need more info. Does it make any sounds? Rubs, clanks, hums .... anything? Are you stock otherwise .... ???

no the vibration is all rpm ranges.. w and w/o load.. ill rev the engine and the shifter vibrates... it just seems like it wiggles too much, its not tight at all and everything is screwed down...

can those bushings on the shifter rods be changed???

also what about the noise that is coming form the shifter... i have the shift boot there... it seems like its coming from the shifter itself...

Hi there I hope you replace that little cooper bearing that goes on the crank shaft , that centers the output shaft to the cranshaft .. hopes this helps ! that would be my guess that if you didn't have this problem before the swap .

Es inserts in Front & Rear and then poly fill left and right mounts and you will be great i did a 5spd swap in 06 and ran into some issues but now im S/C'ed and its even better as far as vibration check the coils and injectors and all

one of the purpose of that is to center the output shaft with the center of the crankshaft if you didn't put one in the output shaft is not going to be center and down thr road I'll bet that your clutch will go ..one way you can tell is when you are driving and you feel vibrating depress the clutch pedal and if it goes away than you know is that .. I dout is anything else .. that's waht happen to me .. it suck to think that little cooper thing will make such a difference .. that more like a cincronicer than a bearing .. think about it .. it might make sence ..

Have another look - there is nothing on the tranny input shaft that inserts into that pilot bushing.

You can ignore the pilot bushing, even if your kit includes one.

Could it be that your flywheel is out of balance? Does the frequency of the vibration follow engine rpm?

Remember, vibration is generated in one place and it may rattle something somewhere else. Your shifter is one of the more rattle-ish parts attached to the engine.

Ever heard of proper grammar?

Are you using stock mounts with high mileage on them?

the mounts have 120k on them.. i did not have the vibrations before the swap with the auto

I got the vibrations too and i did the 5 spd. swap over a year a go. I just went to deal with it. BTW I never put in a pilot bushing. I'm running stock motor mounts with 150k on them, and a b&m SS.

hmmm coinsident that people that didn't put the pilot bearing got vibration after the swap ! hmmmm I really don't think is the mounts I'm saying this from experiance if you don't put or replace a pilot bearing you will get vibration soon after that in most cases depents of car you clutch will get out of center and screw up .. it happen to me .. just my two cenys but if you guys want to replace the mount or stuff them with silicone or what ever than go ahead but I guarantee it that once does mounts get loose again the vibration will come back !! I know it suck to have to take the chance to take down the tranny just to test if it is the pilot bearing but if it gets the job done than what else can I say ..

The pilot bushing doesn't touch the tranny input shaft. The input shaft never touches the pilot bushing.

Have a look at the tapered end of the input shaft - there is no bearing journal.

Why nissan bothered to put a pilot bushing in the crankshaft is beyond me. But it's not required. It has as much affect as the color of the paint.

no im not buddy i bought some cheap mounts off ebay and just inserted the polyurethane. i have been with alll my motor mounts done for 10 months and still driving lovely and i push my hard at times

Make sure the shifter is in it's proper position. If it is slightly out of center it may give some trouble.
