Bose stereo (pathfinder) question

Well i'm not sure if i can get any help but i might as well try.

I purchased a Bose 6CD changer from a pathfinder and attemped to install it today.

Ofcourse i forgot to test it first and just went to town fabricating my brackets to make it sit perfectly flush, which turned out great. After all this i jumpered the correct wires (K to D) as shown in another thread about the pathfinder bose in a 4th gen max, i tried powering the unit on. It didnt turn on.

I checked all the fuses and it wasnt that. So my question is... is there really anything else i can check before i return the unit? can i test it any other way out of the car? Hopefully someone can slap me in the face and tell me something obvious, but i dont expect much and this point it think the unit is a dud...

Did you have stock bose, and got a newer bose? And what fabricating did you do? Mine sat pretty well.

the K+D splice doesnt have anything to do with the power. it has to do with allowing the HU to play music out of your speakers.

when i did mine we fuct up the KandD splice a couple of times before getting it to work.

each time the unit turned on and appeared to be playing a cd, but no sound was coming out.

you sound like you have a power issue and yes you could have a defective unit.

Yea i know that about the splicing but i still wanted to mention it. I had stock bose, then had an aftermarket unit for a while (both worked fine) and now am going to the PF Bose.... i guess it is just a defective unit

Just getting timeline straight. You had stock bose, upgraded to aftermarket. When you upgraded, what did you do about the individual amps?

I'm sorry, this amp thing is unrelated to your original post, but needed to be addressed. About the powering on... sounds like a bench test is needed.

well, just for anyone who was wondering....

I sent the pathfinder radio back and got a refund, and over a couple weeks time found a decent price for another one (although it was a bit more than the first). SO here i go all excited installing it again, go to turn it on, and it does the same thing. no power. i **** my pants at that point.

So, after changing my pants, i tested all the wires for the correct voltages and once again everything checked out ok. Heres the kicker - I randomly recided to plug the antenna in for whatever reason. Turns on instantly. I felt like shooting myself. I have never worked with a ****ing radio that needs the antenna plugged in to turn on... WHAT THE ****!!!!

Anyway all is good now and working great....

i have a similar setup in my a32 which came with a Clarion CD changer, it works like those FM modulators for your IPod where you have to have reception to get the signal through, just like my Clarion in dash TV, has to have the radio on a certain FM frequency to work

really stupid cause i hate the antennae sticking up in the air, so i pulled it out at the mast motor, works good now

The antenna has to be plugged in to provide ground to the unit. This is not uncommon in an OEM unit. Glad you got it working. Where did you get the HU? I'm looking to upgrade and the PF HU's on ebay are going for way too much.

yeah, as i was reading this post...i was going to suggest plugging the antenna in. A friend and I took an aftermarket radio, found the left and right prongs on the circuit board and soldered a digital input to the board. We used this for his iPOD (The line in signal from the ipod would be a lot greater than the radio signal coming in and should over come the radio---worked beautifully when it worked). After some repeated failures, we decided to plug the antenna in.....everything was good to go! (It appeared just like maximomo said, to supply a ground).

I have the bose head unit 6cd changer from a 2004? pathfinder.....that thing is awesome...except when it's cold....---and it wont play the 2nd cd of a 2 disc package?(plays EVERY other cd--the cd is NOT messed up...exchanged it twice) ...makes no sense to me...i just burned it to another disc and that worked

Do all 4th gen maximas have Bose radio? I bought a 99 Gxe a few months ago and the previous owners had a custom radio installed. Im asking because on ebay it says "If you do not have a BOSE system, this unit WILL NOT work."

No, some SE's and all GLE's have Bose, but your GXE doesn't.

The PF radio is nice but another option is the 03-05 350Z radio, it's plug and play too.

This is standard in all three 4th gen OEM units I've dealt with.

Oops, you're bad. Glad you got it figured out though.

My 95 GLE Bose HU display went out a few years ago. A few months ago, I fixed it. Was working great until yesterday when it started screaming. Not metaphorically or idiomatically. It would squeal through the speakers loudly even with the volume **** turned all the way down. I think it is time to replace it.

You all mention that the pathfinder and Z33 Bose Changer HU is plug and play. But you also mention splicing. Splicing is not Plug and Play. Which one is easiest to install? Thanks.

Z33 is plug and play. I've also heard of the Pathfinder having been installed without any modifications, so it may depend on certain years the system came out of.

I just replaced the Bose HU in my 95 SE with a Bose HU from a 98 PF (cost me $60). Like the Max, the 98 PF is a single CD. Fit perfectly with zero mods.

Have you checked out the sizes and the wiring diagram? If both of those are similar (or you feel that you can make it work) then sure.

If you haven't, then you need to go do some of the research yourself.

That's why I said check the wiring diagram, not just looking at the connectors. The information you seek can be had in the FSM.

Factory Service Manual.

Are those the front door speakers or the rear? They look like rear door speakers, given that the fronts have a 6 pin connector, not 2.

Nevermind, they are the rear door speakers. This auction? http://cgi.ebay.com/Nissan-pathfinde...lenotsupported

Should've posted the part number that he took a picture of.

Short answer: they won't work. I found that out by actually doing some research on it.
The rear door Bose speakers for the '02 Pathfinder have a 2 pin connector, whereas on your '98, the fronts are 6 pin and the rears are 4 pin.

Actually, they're the same exact speakers in the front of the A33.

99 Maxima bose install

I just bought a 99 Maxima SE Limited, but sadly bose didn't come stock. I was told that my vehicle was not equipped to have a system installed. Is this true and is there any reason why I couldn't just put a system in? Help in this matter is greeeatly appreciated. I'm about to buy a newer max just to get the bose back!

Sure, you could install the Bose system. It would involve rewiring everything, but it's doable.

Why bother trying to install a Bose system when you could just go aftermarket?

Hi pmohr do u ever sleep? lol. Just wanted to say that my 97 SE didn't come factory with bose but I put it in there. Hardest thing about it was running the switched power wires from the fuse box through the kick panel area to the door amps. Everything else was a sinch.
