Interesting thing

I know I don't post on here ever, but I thought you guys might get a kick out of this.

I have a 98 se auto, about 135K on it. I have like 200+ pounds of audio stuff in the trunk and I'm a bit of a spirited driver. In any case, my average mileage per tank is in the 20-21 area. I drive a fair amount in rush hour and city stuff with some highway.

To the point, I decided I'd try that whole going the speed limit and rolling to lights insread of braking as much (essentially not driving the car as hard). My mileage went up to 25. I'm sure others have had simialr results. And I should note that I still keep pace with traffic and I'm not like on of those people who merge on to the highway at 40.

I didn't realize that it would make that big of a difference initially.

Accelerate slowly, keep the revs as low as possible (40 = 1500 = best), coast as much as possible, brake as little as possible, and carry as much speed through the turns as possible. Just by doing that I went from 16mpg to ~23mpg

ya, its pretty much common sense...

I get average 28mpg. I consider myself a patient guy, I take it easy when accelerating and I coast to stops. However I am also by no means a slow driver, I always drive a little faster than everyone around me, I just dont slam the pedal when a light turns green. I also drive spirited too on occasions.

One other thing I do tho to try to get good milage is I consistently make sure my car is running very smooth and I also try to keep the weight down as much as possible. I dont have the car stripped out but I weight reduce where possible and I dont keep unnecessary crap in the car.
