Quick questions about headers

There might have been a thread on this already im sure, but to the vq35de headers fit on a 1999 (4th gen) Maxima? Are there any gains?

If you mean FWD headers, then IIRC they will bolt up. The y-pipe may not, though.

If you mean RWD...

If you thought there was a thread already on this (and there have been many)...why didn't you search?

In short words, you won't see no gains from headers, but it with the combo of headers and y-pipe your car will sound louder. Yes Y-pipe gives very good gains compared to most bolt on parts but even if you put headers with your y-pipe, you won't see no gains from your headers.

That is if you get $100 headers.

Proper long-tube (cattman, OBX w/custom Y) will generally produce an extra 5whp or so and open up some more area to the right of the curve.

i'm wondering where the "oem style shorty headers make no power" came from too. isee everybody saying it but no proof. granted i'm getting them because its my only option and i don't care a whole lot about power, but if nothing else they should have an improvment due to air flow imo.

I dont remember the exact number but i think i got 7whp more from the Cattman headers over just the Cattman Y pipe. There IS a gain although some feel for the price it isnt enough. Up to you and your wallet to decide. But cattman headers sound amazing no regrets.

The Cattman Headers were originally designed for the 4th gen, then someone found that they fit perfectly on the 5.5 gen, so

i prototyped headers for a company and one of the guidelines was that I had to get dyno'd before and after. I had y/straightpipe/and catback before headers and i gained about 4hp and 8 ft.lbs @ the wheels just from the headers.

A good set of quality headers will net 20fwhp over stock. I've seen this dyno proven 3x. No tuning whatsoever.

You guys are on crack...

I got those $200 headers/y-pipe on Ebay (SS AutoChrome) and I later removed my y-pipe and replaced it with stock fed spec (I'm originally cali spec) y-pipe (car was too loud).

My car is still faster than the day I got it...so you're telling me the headers don't do jack? You're full of it.

I also have a high-flow magnaflow cat, budget b-pipe, and OEM 4th gen muffler which I doubt have any effect on my performance.

I was being sarcastic...but nope...no dyno's in my area and I'm not about to drive hours to get some lousy numbers...at least not with how expensive gas is these days.

My throttle is much more responsive and my pick-up is much better. If it's not my headers, what else would it be? My TL projectors? lol. .

Now that I read the entire thread, since you seem persistant that you think I was talking about everyone (I guess I didn't clarify well enough) I was referring to the following posts:

As far as I can tell, they are saying Headers = Waste of $$$...which is, I think, absolutely not true.

We are in agreement, but this is an age old argument that could last for eons.
