REALLY Weird '98 Problem

Sometimes when I go to start the car, it seems usually after it's been sitting for a while(8 hrs) and there is a temperature change the car will ALMOST start and then sputter out. UNLESS I put my foot down on the gas and rev it a couple times. When this first occurred 1-2 years ago I was told I needed a tune up.

I bought the car used so I immediately bought new spark plugs, K&N air filter and have since continued to change oil every 3k-4k miles, replaced the fuel filter, checked fluids, air pressure in tires you name it.

Today while braking somewhat quickly the car cut out. I was breaking before a turn so needless to say getting around the turn was kind of scarring without power steering.

I've checked for codes, nothing. WTF?!

I was going to say maybe fuel filter. My car had developed an on and off odd start when the weather was around 30-40 degrees and the engine was cold. The '96 has this problem even warm and is also throwing EGR codes but I have to imagine the fuel filter in there is ancient.

i had the same problem with the engine cutting out around a turn.

it was after i had my alternator replaced, so i found out it could be a faulty ground.

it ended up being my fuel filter... try that

Yeah I replaced the fuel filter recently so maybe that's it. I've put that fuel cleaner stuff in before, in fact I usually put some in once or twice a year (I was told not to do it anymore than that).

Don't suppose there is any diagnostic stuff I can do to check the fuel pump? Also I thought the pump wasn't really working on a full tank of gas...
