y pipe

I know this been reviewed before but i just wondered what is the best y pipe, and is it possible to pass inspection with it . I searched but most threats ppl have more then just y pipe. I read that it the cheapest mod you can do to get power, thats the reason im thinking about it ..

thx in advance and sorry if its a repost

Honestly, asides from the lack of o-ring grooves in the front flanges, I've been real happy with the e-bay headers package. Toss the headers in the trash, and go out and buy several hose clamps and a roll of header-wrap. Coat the crappy gaskets with permetex copper SPRAY. It's also helpful to have a welder, because you can't re-use the stock brackets.

E-bay y-pipe wrapped with header wrap and brackets welded up = a cheap yet very quality set-up, and it's the one I will continue to recommend/install until someone offers either an o-ringed stainless for the same price, or better yet an equal length set-up.

In NJ you won't have a problem with inspection, go warm if you are getting tail pipe sniffed. And dude, it's such a repost.

I was very close to getting one of those Ebay header/y combos, but I didn't want to deal with the nuisances. Budget had some auctions going about 2 months ago on Ebay-I got my Y brand new for $200 even and had no problems. KRRZ350 is right though-from what I've heard you better have the car warmed up before inspection.

I'm not a fan of budget, at all. I'll try to get pics up in this thread as to why, actually on my camera at the garage I have a side by side shot of 3 different Y's that are nearly identical, they are stillen, e-bay, and topspeed, and I also have another pic of a 2-year old budget that is JUNK.

Price? Availability of a shop with a mandrel bender and the time to make a custom Y?

For some people () that's no issue, but for most it is. A $200 mass-produced Y-pipe is far cheaper than a mandrel custom Y.

i might be totally smoking crack but is a factory fed spec 4th gen y pipe closer to equal length than say a warpspeed or budget? i know the aftermarket pipes give power because of the elimination of the pre cats but they give you that horrible sound. would cattman catback sound better with stock y pipe or aftermarket? forget about power just what about sound in your opinions????thanks and oh yeah i got the fire extinguisher next to me...lol

There is also the fact that alot of exhaust shops won't touch our exhaust because of the pre-cats. Atleast thats the vibe that I get around here with the shops in CT...

I bought my budget stainless steel y-pipe for $235 shipped and had it installed for $75. I have since passed emissions, had absolutely no bees-in-a-can noise, and gone through a Missouri winter, and the pipe still shines. And the performance gain is tough to beat for the price.

Questions?

A 4th gen y is equal length, but this is because the rear collector intersects the front collector at a 90 degree angle - horrible for flow. A cattman catback (or any similar 2.5" catback) would sound smoother and quieter with a stocker. This is why the equal-length y is so desired; it gives a better sound without sacrificing performance.

my Y cost me $350 AUS (which aint that much different to the greenback these days lol) mandrel bent, with flex and sensor holes, fitting, everything

i thought that was pretty good considering the shop had never heard of them before. I just gave them a pic of a cattman one and said 'basically this'

the sound is great - i was told it would be 'raspy' but its nice and deep and gives off a nice burble when i let off the pedal, a great addition to the car and sounds throaty with the custom catback

down here everything is custom made lol

I have just recently passed Texas emissions with my new Warpspeed Y-Pipe, which doesn't have the bees-in-a-can noise so far

i went to pull in a toyota solaratoday at work , prob like an 00 01 and when i started it i noticed it had some kind of exhaust. i laughed out loud to myself than pulled it in.butttt..... it actually sounded good. better than most of our maxis unfortunatly.while i was under it i saw it only had an aerospeed muffler welded on axle back style. than it hit me... this a 3.0 y does it sound so good? than i looked at the y pipe this thing was almost so equal length i almost went to my car to get my digital camera. i was shocked.... we so need a cheap equal length y pipe WTF

Warpseed Y pipe that replaced shot stock unit. No bees and no problem with emisssions. Sounds good, not too loud (stock Muffler). Noticable performance gain.

BTW, having an unequal length y-pipe, such as my Warpspeed one makes the Maxima have a boxer rumble sound, kinda like a Subaru. I like it
