new y-pipe and cat, why is low-end dragging?
yep, new warpspeed y and magnaflow cat, 95 gle with 176,000 miles on her. runs great, just seems like low end, 1st and second seem to lag a bit when i punch it. now, your gonna ask what have i done and any codes??? everything, and no codes, the crap-*** cattback is still on there and im replacing with a pacesetter cattback set-up. will that help, or is there something else i can do. plugs, battery, tranny, rad, fluids all good as gold, now what??

it's possible that you are preloading the cat now ... and before you weren't. i'll explain .... you went from a stock Y pipe which will only allow so much pressure to be pushed thru ... and now you have more air space, thus allowing more pressure to push thru ... till it hits the cat. replace the cat (possibly clogged too) and see if that helps. i bet it will.

He did just replace the cat. Did you read the message or title at all?
I say exhaust leak as well. Very easy to create one when messing with swapping around exhaust parts. Not to mention a lot of times the gaskets that come with the pipes aren't so great. Warpspeed's aren't usually bad, though.

yeah, found a small leak between the cat and the resinator making me want to rip my ears off!!!! not to mention the crappy mieneke cattback that was put on 2 and a half years ago making the max sound like a truck!!! wow, that little leak combined with the crappy cattback is making the max run like crap. cant wait to put the pacesetter on there!!!!

ok, you pay for that set-up. i got the pacestter for 150.00 shipped and im puttin it on myself. to me, its all realitive to how much money you want to dump into an old car and im probably buyin new this time next year. had enough of $hit breakin all the time.

its all part of the joys of modding a car its not for everyone.

Im telling you from when i had pacesetter. I would never in my life pay for it again. Now im all custom mandrel bent, well worth the extra few dollars. Lets say i payed $200 for 3inch catback on my car.

^^^what kind, from where, and how much louder than the pacesetter. i listened to all the clips and the pacestter was the quietest i heard. im 43, not some kid trying to impress the locals, so im looking for a clean sounding set-up with a little roar and thats it.

yeah, and totally illegal. and i talked to a custom shop about doing a 3 inch mandrel bent and they said about 5 to 700.00 and you told me 200.00 which is bs dude. i didnt know you had no res or cat, so, why even bother chimin in if your not gonna be specific??? you knew i was talkin about doin a res and i have a cat as well, what you have cant be bought, except that crap e-bay muffler which does'nt sound bad.

^^^^its not always good to fool with MOTHER MAXIMA!!!! the noise was the reason i got the quietest exhaust i could find, i decided to stick with the pacesetter because its quiet and pretty sturdy for the money. thanks to all who replied, its always great to get feedback on something your unsure of so you dont find out the hard way.

i have messed around with both the stock and aftermarket y pipe... low end is MUCH better with stock.. but after 3k it falls on its face where the aftermarket y pipe keeps pulling...
i dunno y somebody cant make a hybrid like the vette has on its mufflers..
these are my and my buddies findings...

pre-cats in the stock y are why it pulls so well off the line, but in the high end its slow as hell. my warpspeed is much better in the 3 to 4k area now and i cant wait to see how the new cattback looks, sounds, and feels after a 200 miles and she breaks in. woot!!

I have a custom catback, altogether with the muffler and everything it cost me about $250. 2.5" crush bent. It helped my low and mid range a bit...
I am looking to make an equal length Y-pipe... hopefully that will eliminate the low end problem while opening up the top end. The pipes may also be oversized, making low end exhaust velocity too slow...
