Removing AC Compressor

Removing AC Compressor
Is there a way to remove the compressor for good. I have no condenser because I never replaced it after a reck and dont plan on replasing it so I don't care about not having ac. The reason I would like to take the compressor off is because it is making an annoying noise and I dont want it to lock up and mess things up. So I would like to just take it off and not have to worry about that happening my question is do I have to get a free spinning pully or smaller belt since the crank, alternator and compressor use the same one? I have heard of people taking them off for racing how do they do that?

Ok i searched and found some info. I don't need help routing a belt it just looked like it would not work with out a compressor because the alternater is above the tensioner but I guess it will work just didnt look right.

I did it.
It's cake and the compressor stays put. I'm running with the compressor by-passed right now.
If you do the search you'll find a couple of belt lengths that will work.
Just be sure to be in that range of lengths.

you will need a compressor clutch holding tool. http://www.autozone.com/R,NONAPP101/...ductDetail.htm
once the clutch disc is removed you'll need to take it to a machine shop to have the old bearing pressed out and the new one pressed in.
a new bearing is $35.00 to about $55.00 depending on the which compressor you've got. http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...pe=450&PTSet=A

Hey, quick question.
I also need to bypass my A/C but I dont plan on removing it. Though I cant seem to find a 36" belt for my 98. On gates website it just shows me the regular 43" one that goes around everything. Would anyone happen to have a link?

If you search for a belt for a specific vehicle(like our max) youre going to find the belt size that goes around everything to run all acceseries. So just go pick up a 36" belt.
And seriously? This thread is over 2 years old.
