Weird looking knock sensor

Weird looking knock sensor

The knock sensor on my current engine is bad so I pulled the knock sensor from my old engine but it looks kind of odd:





Anyone else seen one like this before? Should I just go and get one from ebay instead?

I'm pretty sure that's a normal knock sensor, but it went through something so hot that it melted the plastic off of the sides

Has the engine that you pulled this from been in a fire?

I had a friend that blew a coolant line on his car. The overheat caused the KS to melt like that as well.

No fire, but one of the heater core coolant lines did blow before. Guess I'll just order a sensor off ebay.

Yea, mine looks just like that...still works perfectly fine, though.

I imagine it happened when I overheated the **** out of my motor everyday for a good year. Good ol bulletproof VQ...
