So saturday i got my ypipe on my car and i found out taht my cat had a hole in it. so today i took it to a muffler shop and got a new cat on it and now my service engine light is on? could the problem be the o2 or do i just need to get the service light reset?
thanks,

You could also search for the procedure to check the code yourself without a reader.

to what everybody said already. If you need a Factory Service Manual (FSM), you can download it for free. The FSM will tell you what your code(s) mean, and the possible culprits.

Call a local auto parts store to see if they have the ability to determine what the code is. I would lean towards the o2 sensor if you just had the cat replaced.

no after y swap i didnt have the cel light come on thats why i dont think its the 02 as 02 is on the ypipe and not on the cat converter. but i will see if i can pull the codes when i get off work and repost.
thanks guys,
xorox

I had some exhaust work done on my car and my rear 02 sensor went out days later. A lot of exhaust shops start banging on the exhaust and heating up the bolts without disconnecting the 02 sensors. When they are old the wires can get pulled out of them.

Just download the FSM, figure out the procedure to manually check the codes...check the code. If it's Rear O2, take it back to the shop that did the work and see if they would fix it.

They will run the code, call you back, and tell you what the problem is. if they're a good shop, they'll own up to their mistake, if it was indeed their fault. If it is an unrelated code, they will hand it back top you, with the code information, we hope.

no because its 99% unlikely its the valve itself.. if ur getting a low flow fault its because the egr tube itself is solid with caked on sh.it.. it needs to be removed and cleaned...

yea the guy didnt tell me what code he just went and called nissan and then told me that i need the egr valve replaced and the egr module and quoted me the prices so i told him yea i will give u a call later and left lol. I know a mechanic who works at nissan and he has a shop of his own so ill take it to him and get him to check it for free and tell me what the real deal is lol. the exhaust guy told me that since my car is flowing better now that could have been what triggered the egr valve? does that make any sense? b/c the light did come on only after i got the cat put on.
