Umm I would suggest completing any problems with your car (if any) then moving on the maintenance before modding.
CAI-> I suggest you stick with the stock airbox, seeing that its better.

Yep, WhiteA32 said it. Check your suspension (Control Arms, Bushings, Struts) and exhaust system. pretty sure those r rotted to muck with rust like everyone elses if the previous owner never changed them.

If all is well and you really wanna quick 30hp boost then y-pipe is the way to go if the car is completely stock. Budget or warpspeed for that. There are tons of mods you can do for pretty cheap but r you gonna do them yourself or bring it to a shop???

^^ pfft, mine gives me 40hp, it's titanium.

yea fix anything that's wrong with the car first as others have said, and tackle maintenance second; change your fluids, think about going synthetic with trans oil, maybe even engine oil if it's not got a ton of miles. Read up on all this in old threads/stickies. Then worry about mods.

personally I went fluids-tint-headlights(stock output sucks, esp 95-96)-tails-ypipe-other little crap.

It sounds like you want performance first instead of show mods. A CAI won't really give a horsepower gain, but it does give a nice growl.
As others have suggested:
1. Fix any things that need fixing or replacement
2. Y-pipe
3. Save for lowering (springs/struts/shocks) if you want better handling

Thanks J, y-pipe eliminates 2 precats on 4th gens, giving better flow and in turn approx 30hp. You don't get much o the low end though

Dude trust me make damn sure u do maintainance first. I started buyin performance mods then i realized i had quite a bit of things that needed fixing so ive got next to nothing for cash. make sure any rust is taken care of immediately before it becomes a problem like it did for me. rusted out radiator mount = $500!!!! Is the GLE a 5spd? if so check your clutch and tranny. they could be goin bad too. Then once all that is done you can start thinking about mods. like it was said before start with suspension, bushings and control arms and struts. Also what really would help is hanging out with people that work on cars and maybe even getting a job in a shop. personally im going for cosmetic first so my car looks good before i mod it too heavily. rust = turn off

GLE never came in a 5-speed, only SEs and GXEs....The only way the GLE could be a manual is if someone has done a swap on it...

There is no go fast mod that is worthwhile on a NA engine unless it is the addition of forced induction IMO. Save your money for repairs and for when gas reaches $8/gal.

I almost have to agree. For all the money ive stuck in my car, im still not feeling what I want to feel...I will be FI soon enough tho.

Unless you plan on doing alot of power mods and eventually doing a engine swap or FI, I would stick with visual mods. IE: drop, lip kit, rims, tint, lights...etc.

In the end tho, do whatever floats your boat.

i disagree on this statement. The y pipe and 00vi together will give about 35whp gain for less than $500. not only do both of these give great gains but then will be a great adition to a FI car seing as it will help the forced air flow even better. When installing a turbo or super charger it is more then just that( unless you want to run low boost or blow an engine) so in the mean time you can install these performance items which will give decent gains for alot less then a turbo

in order i say

1-60k service/repairs needed
2-tint
3-y pipe
4- suspension
5- sterio system( atleast upgraded deck)
6-intake/intake manifold( 00vi or mevi)

35 peak horsepower and about 60hp at redline when comparing non VI cars to VI cars.

Proof http://forums.maxima.org/dyno-discus...q-99-auto.html. Look at his graph compared to mine in post 27.

When are you people going to learn that tints/suspension/stereo systems don't add power? Also, you arent doing yourself any favors with an air intake. If anything you losing low end tq and maybe adding a couple crank hp at redline. As for the rest, show me a dyno sheet. It's highly annoying when people claim added hp/whp without providing before and after dyno results. Besides all that, its a 4th gen maxima, I mean.... Come on... Even if a maxima passed me in my 400 whp S4, I'd still have to laugh a little.....

why hasn't anyone recommended the Tornado Air fuel saver, or changing the blinker fluid to synthetic?

Isn't there a sticky thread that literally speaks to the noob and first mods to consider?

My vote goes to under car neons, 20'' rims, reflective tint, and LED washer nozzles.
