Ignition sometimes hard to start...any ideas?

Sometimes when I turn the key there is no sound at all...then I turn it to off and jiggle it while turning and giving it gas and it starts.

I'd hate to start off buying a new starter, but not sure where to begin diagnosing this.

hate to tell you but that sounds most likely your starter going out...same thing happened to me about 2 months ago!

I'm going to bump this because the time is right to finally fix this.

Here's the symptoms:

-car will always start IF I throttle the accelerator a few times while turning the key
-have to usually keep the throttle going for the first few seconds or it will just die again, then it settles in
-idle is usually around 650rpm, but sometimes during driving it will then get stuck at 1200 to 1500 rpm.

Any other ideas or cheaper things to check and replace before I sink $150 into a starter?

ignition switch...my car will also just "click" when i try to start it, and then it'll start right up
don't think it would be your starter

Your first post in this thread points to a faulty ignition switch.

Your recent post in this thread points twards an issue with your throttle body and possibly the ECT sensor. Clean the throttle body, IACV and check the fast idle cam and plunger for proper operation. Check the ECT sensor, make sure it's within spec when it's cold.

A copy of the Haynes shop manual will help you out.
