Pep Boys tires????

I talked to someone the other day, he drives a I30t. He purchases some of the Pep Boys Touring tires. He said they are pretty good. I'm having a hard time believing this one. Has anyone else purchases Futura Touring tires? If so, how do they ride?

mmmmm, in my opinion, tires are the most important part of your car. from racing applications to general touring, tires play a vital part of keeping your car on the road, brake, accelerate and in the direction you want it to be. so, the cheaper the tire, the less that company invested in research and development, and the less secure you and your car will be.

if your car means anyting more to you than simple A to B tranportation, then get good tires because you'll know the difference when you drive... I just got some new bridgestone tires and they make my car corner like crazy

The only thing that contacts the road is (well, should be) your tires... if you're going to go cheap that isn't the place.

I agree, do not cheap out on the tires. If your on this forum you won't be happy and I personally tires are one of the most critical safety items on a car.

You should always get good tires. Would you like to be in a nice car and bad tires? It's like having "lucky boys" shoes! So spend the doe and get good tires. That's my opinion.

Pep Boys tires are not the worst. I would stay away from Continental tires, and yeah are/were the stock tires on most MB, BMW, and Audi's, but they are real bad. Ohh for those people quoting name brands, I have one word for you, FIRESTONE! The only difference with pep boys tires are they most likely wear quicker and they may make more noise and they might be worse in the rain. However, they could turn out to be the best tire you have ever had. The best way to tell is go look at them in person and see if you like the tread pattern. If it has a center channel, it will prob. be pretty good in the rain. Look if it is hard or soft. Cheap things in life might not always be bad, just as expensive things might not always be good!

Good luck,
Erik

I work there and sell tires all the time but the clientel is not your drag racer or auto crosser or auto enthusiast...they are looking for a decent, inexpensive long lasting tire set made by a reputable company (Cooper) and can count on good service most of the time. I would put the HR rated GLH on my Maxima if I was not concerned with performance. Looks and feel are enough to convince me. And they have 70,000 mile warranty on some tires...you can go thru three sets of "BETTER" tires in that time at an exhorbitant cost to you and during most driving conditions...not notice one ounce of difference.

.

A couple of my friends have pepboys tires on their cars... One is a 92 Eurosport Lumina and the other is a 92 Camry.. They don't modify their cars and don't really care much for performance, nor do they drive that much, but they don't really complain about them. Like theblue said, they are just using their cars to get them from point A to point B. However, you will not believe what kind of difference tires make. When I got my 225/50/16 Sumitomo HTR 4 high peformance all seasons, I have never heard my tires squeal no matter how hard I drove..... this is with completely stock suspension. They made a night and day difference...

Good tires play a vital role in determining:
-steering response
-handling
-road noise
-braking
-safety

I think good tires are one of the best investments you can make in your car...

Some of the best tire brands are:
Yokohama
Pirelli
Dunlop
Michelin (pricey!)

I am running those tires and they rule. If you don't want to invest in 16" or 17" rims and you want an accurate speedometer reading, (assumes stock size is 205/65/15) then you can't go wrong with these tires. I have driven at 60mph+ in the pouring rain and NEVER had a problem. They are (as the name implies), quiet as hell and they never squeal under hard cornering.

However, the steering response could better and the sidewalls could be stiffer. But hey, for $70 a tire, I am definetely not complaining!

I've heard people complain about their road noise. Is the road noise that bad?

Michelins

My experience is Michelins are reasonably quiet compared to others that are in that general range (remember we're talking about 65 series tires) so we're talking Michelin MXV, Bridgestone Turanza, Dunlop SP Sport W2, etc. Particularly as the tire wears compared to others. I went through quite a few different brands in this size on my previous car (160k miles before getting the Maxima).

Will 225 wide tires fit the 16" 2KSE rims?

Hi, I have the 2K rims with the OEM tires. They are 215 wide. And man do they suck. I mean they chirp every damn corner or takeoff even at low accel. Will 225 wide rims fit those tires?
Thanks.

ok... first of all all tires are different... I work at the pep boy's on rte. 22 in Union NJ and all the tires there suck... except for the Futura Ultra Z's. No matter what tread pattern u get all tires that have a ZR speed rating was given that rating by the US government before they were released to consumers. If you want better handling and so on... look at the speed ratings. if you have Z rated tires and they handing great... you got good tires. If you have Z rated tires and your car is handling like **** you should go back to where you bought them and ask questions because for the money you pay... you dont want your new tires feeling like your stock tires.

yes, 225 will fit.
However, the chirp on corners will happen on any ****ty tires depending on how hard you push it, will probably happen on good tires as well. The 215s must be worn or just ****ty tires. Get something more sticky and then take it for a spin, then try and contain the smile on your face When I put on my 225/50/16s onto lighter rims and took it for a spin around the corners hard, I thought I would flip over if I was to push it any harder but I did not hear a squeal from them at all. There are tires way better.... get something nice, you get what you pay for.

I have the stock 16" alloys that came with my 99 SE-L. I just put on a set of B'stone RE950's in 225/55HR16. Fills the wheel-wells nicly with the slight lowering from the H&R springs. Ride improved too!

The B'stones were choice #1, the Dunlop Sport A2's were choice #2.
