Door handle lining removal
Door handle lining removal
Im having a hard time removing the inner part of the door handle... its actually called an escutcheon... and i did some searching and found a couple things that are "key" to removing them... heres what ive found...
1. start with back and then top clips and it should pop off easy
2. start with front and then slide off backwards
3. dont pull too hard... easy to snap...
any advice? im really struggling here...

If so, just pull it out slowly at an angle. Not that hard, they just pop in and pop out. You can use a flat head screw driver just have to be carfull not to damage the door panel.
If you cant figure this out and are struggling, you most likely shouldnt be working on your car.
FYI, an escutcheon is usually refered to the cosmetic pieces used to surround keyholes, door *****, and locks on a HOUSE. Not cars.

You do know your first two steps contradict each other. Anyways, if its the interior handle trim you are talking about, always start on the side closer to the front of the car. Ive taken mine off so many times without any problems by doing it this way.
The escutcheon plate (yep, I call it that too, and the FSM refers to it as that as well!) DEFINITELY comes off by prying from the top and bottom first, sort of near the front of the plate. Thats where the 2 plastic pawls that hold it in are located. Use a flat screwdriver and protect the door panel by placing a cloth between the panel and the screwdriver.
FSM shows how this is done perfectly on page BF-17 (for a 95 Max).
If you pry from the front and/or back, you will break the plate and could also irrepairably dent the panel - an expensive item. I know because this is what the dealer did to mine when my car was brand new 14 years ago and went in to have the alarm switches on all 4 doors replaced. The 95 back then was a 1st year model, and the service guys didn't even know at that time how to get the escutcheon plate off properly.

surprisingly i could never get mine off so i came to the conclusion that when you unscrew everything else, i just pull off the whole door panel and it just pops off no problem. everything else i tried to take it off with i felt like i was gonna break it.
