problems at idle

this happened about ten minutes ago so i havent gotten to actually diagnose it yet.

Heres what happened. Pulled into a drive through and put in neutral and hit e-brake, car stalled and thats it. Started right back up, left Mc Donalds and got to a light, stopped put it in neutral and it stalled again, no apparent reason nor forwarning of this. The only thing that i actually observed was that the car was idling a little high, 1600 rpm as opposed to the normal 6-700 i usually see. Now the weird thing is that this is not a consistent problem, it died and i started it, pulled forward in line and no problem, leave the parking light and then get to a light then it dies, also thats when the check engine light reared its head. Any of this happen to you? I think it may be a vaccuum problem, i hope its just a loose hose. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hmm...the only thing I could make a guess on is your idle air control valve could either be dirty or the electrical sensor itself is going bad. The other guess could possibly be one of your spark plug coil...but if this is going bad you should experience hesitation/stalling like symptom at most speed. Did you get any check engine light?

I had the same problem about 3 weeks ago. My car, when idling would every now and then shut off. i ran the diagnostic test and it said I had a bad cam shaft sensor.
I took my car to the shop they replaced it and the car has worked fine ever since.

It is a very simple repair, all the mechanic did was pop out the old sensor and put in the new one.
The shop charged me $67 for the part and the total bill was $142.
So you could easily do this your self and save money.

It's the sensor on the passenger side of the engine, it plugs into the side of the engine.

That is, if this is your problem.
