95/96 'Ebay/CE' Red/Clear question

Hey guys,

Has anyone ever attempted to open up the new 95/96 red/clear taillights? I want to do something similar to the 97+ DTM mod, but to the 95/96 tails. I just want to know for sure if I can get them open. I did search, but didn't find anything after 2 days searching.

Thanks,
David

I haven't heard of anybody opening those up. Good idea but I don't know if its possible. I was thinking about doing the same when I get mine, but I'm probably gonna end up masking off the red and tinting the white with some Nightshade or something like that. Good luck though.

People have tried before, and it seems that these tails are much more fragile than the OEM tails. They tend to break when you try to separate them.

There was a more recent thread in which another guy had similar results, but I can't find that one

I've got my stock tails, reverse and turn lights tinted with NiteShades. It looks pretty good, but it doesn't stand out. I'd rather have the black on the inside of the lights.

True the black on the inside would look much better than just having the reverse and turn signals tinted, but it seems like thats the only option thats left.

Do you have experience with this or are you just guessing? If I remember right, you did have these red/clears but you painted the tops red. Did you ever try to take them apart?

Yes they are glued, but all tail lights have some sort of sealant. If its got clips too, try to pry them slowly off while heating it with a heat gun or something. They might be fragile, but that doesnt mean its impossible.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I have yet to get a set of these. We'll see if anyone wants to sell me theirs. I don't want to pay full price for these if I accidently break them. I have a WTB thread in the classifieds.
