Question on Cattman Y Pipe.

IMO, can't go wrong with Cattman stuff.

i asked brian about a y pipe during his may sale and he said he only sells y-pipe/headers combo. i thought he meant it was "one-piece" or the y pipe wouldn't fit on stock manifolds. thats good to know

His standard ypipe (one piece) which bolts up to the OEM exhaust manifolds
or
his headers which come with it's own unique ypipe (different from his standard ypipe). It's a 3 piece system. 2 exhaust manifolds, or headers if you will, and a 1 piece ypipe.

Budget ran an e-bay auction to clear out the remaining inventory that they had in the y-pipe for the 4th gens. She said that would probably not ever happen again.
Who knows though... if they get enough calls, maybe they will do another batch or something?

per my last discussion w/ mr catts the 95-99 y-pipe is currently not in production. you might want to contact him directly for more (accurate) info but last i heard it was not available.
the y-pipe/header combo is a different animal and the y-pipe section will not bolt up to the stock exhuast mainfolds. not sure why you would want to do that anyway.

If you look at the aftermarket y-pipes the front section of pipe is longer than the piece that comes off the rear headers.
Because of that design it is referred to as an un-equal length design.
The equal length design is your factory pipe, but the flow is terrible as the rear headers flow counter to the main flow of the exhaust. It's sorta hard to describe.
Stillen, and some other manufactures at one point were making an equal length design for the y-pipes. In order to maximize flow they needed to put a loop into the rear part. This compromised ground clearance. Some say the sound is nicer from an equal length design but.... I can't comment.
Hope that helps you out.
go to this site and scroll down to post number eight. There is a picture of what an equal length pipe looks like. It's for a different car, but you should get the idea.
