Transmission Rebuild

Well my 4th Gen auto transmission has started slipping and I'm trying to decide on the best course of action.

I found an infiniti I30t tranny 70 miles away for 350 from a junkyard, which would be cool because of the LSD but I don't know the condition and I can't afford any more problems.

My other thought is having my current transmission rebuilt. Does anyone have any experience with AAMCO? I'm afraid to go with a little shop around my town for fear of having my tranny screwed up.

What would you guys do?

Kris

The first thing I'm gonna do is move this to the appropriate section.

My friend had his auto tranny rebuilt(reverse gear was GONE). It cost him $1800.
I had a different friend have his 1995 Mercedes E320 auto tranny rebuilt(reverse was dead and the forward gears were extremely sluggish) I think it cost him somewhere like $1600... just to give you some ideas...

Personally, I was take the risk with the I30 tranny. Perhaps try to talk them down a bit because you dont know the condition of it. What about the mileage? and where that tranny was used? city or highway.... good luck

I'd say that at least $1000 to have it done. If you pull it and take it to a shop, look to spend maybe $ 700 or so.

i spent 1,200.00, 700.00 for a 70,000 transmission, and 500.00 to have it put in. DO NOT, and i repeat DO NOT take it to suuckmo transmission, they suck and are really slow. and my expierience with rebuilds is they don't last. buy a used trans from a reliable junkyard and have it put in at a shop you trust. make sure you get a warranty on the trans job they do, i got 3 months warranty and still running smooth. good luck!!!!
