New Gas car getting really good mileage

I have been using this new gas by BP Amoco (Invigorate) (Ultimate). I was using Exxon/Mobil (Premium) before and was averaging 215 miles on a tank combo hwy/city driving. I having been using the new gas for a month now and noticed I am averaging 210 miles and I am just at a half tank! With same hwy/city driving. I don't gun it and treat my Maxima with respect on the road. Want to know if anyone has had the same experience or something similiar. Btw: Did oil change and filter about 2 months ago.

You got better gas mileage from BP?!

I've found that although BP is usually one of the cheapest, it doesn't give me good mileage. So I find that a couple cents extra from a different station usually evens itself out with better mileage. (GetGo's my favorite, Speedway will do.)

Maybe it's different in different places though..

Your math doesn't add up or something else is a factor. No one doubles their mileage by merely switching gas company's.

215miles before
400miles projected

Report back once you actually finish your gas and fill up again.

I agree, and for your car to only get 215 a full tank...that's pretty horrid. Even my car with a supercharger and 370cc injectors and my lead foot isn't quite that bad.

What you should do is log your fuel usage...I started using Fuelly. To log my cars. A pretty nifty setup. I can track not only the mileage, but the cost as well. That might be a more effect way to track. http://www.fuelly.com/car/nissan/maxima

That's awfull mileage. I get over 300 miles/tank easily. Did almost 450 on the last trip we took.

Switching gas brands does not give results like that.
Something is wrong with the car or you did something else to increse mileage.

Did you perhaps put air in your tires during the last fill up?

215 for a full tank? With 16 gallons that would equal about 13mpg. That is what my 86 Blazer with gears, a slightly built 350, and 36" Swampers got on the freeway...

I repeatedly get 400-450 miles a tank no problem... Always use premium from Chevron...

It's a bit off topic, but I still do not understand why people complain about having to use premium. Say you get 17 gallons, $0.20 a gallon more, that is $3.40 per fill up. Skip McDonalds once that week and you break even! It just seems in the big scheme of things a few extra dollars really does not matter in the least. Am I the only one who sees it this way?

I can go aprox. 340 miles on 3/4 of a tank so I'd sat 215 is real crappy.

^^^ ummmmm, "20c a gallon more??? i dont think so. this is the 3rd time i've seen someone post this gas price indifference. try 40 to 45c a gallon more and a very slight difference in overall mileage gained. so, for lets say a 15 gallon fill up your gonna pay an extra 6.00 per 15 gallon fill up x4 ( monthly) thats an extra 24.00 a month!!! x12 thats 288.00 ( and thats if you fill up only 4 times a month) a year!! so, 300.00 or more a year to fill up on premium??? i would just rather put bg gas treatment in 4 to 5 times a year and get around 28 to 32 miles per gallon and pocket the reat for new projectors!!

the price difference will vary by where you fill up.
I've seen some places that are only 20 and others are 30 around me.

BPs around here don't have the new marketing term on the pumps yet, but on a road trip during the summer I filled up at a BP with invigor8 and got the same mileage as usual. In fact, I have never noticed one station make a difference. Only seasonal changes make a difference for me, and that is regardless of brand.

I agree with others about premium use - at today's fuel prices the % extra if you pay 20c more for premium isn't much at all. If your knock sensor works premium gasoline is worth it in the max.

Its at 291 and I am down to 1/4 tank so I estimate if I ran it all the way to empty it would be around 320m (pushing it) I had this car for 14 years

Folks I was just talking about the jump in gas mileage on using this partciular brand. AS for comments about crappy mileage, I live in NJ and commute to NYC at the end of the week and on the weekend. If anyone lives in NYC and knows about stop and go driving and the traffic, it takes a toll. I have driven my Maxima from NY to South Carolina and filled up in Virginia and at the border of SC, coming back filled up in Maryland and when I hit NJ. Just twice, each way, and over 830+ miles as I can remember on my trip odometer.
For those who are getting 300m you car is probably tuned a heck of alot better than mine.

Thanks for the responses and comments

Every single gas station around my college town and on the 250 mile drive back home is $0.10 more for each consecutive octane. 87 to 89, 89 to 91... Every once in a while 87 will be $0.15 cheaper than 89 but that is quite rare. I would estimate 90% of stations within 400 miles follows this as well. Guess it depends on where you live... Even so your math is ridiculous. 15 gallons a week at a lame 25mpg(my Max easily gets 26-27 on a regular basis) is 375 miles per WEEK. That is 1500 per month. 18,000 per year. The national average is somewhere near what, 11,000? Using 11k as a baseline and $0.40 more per gallon, that is approximately $175 per year increase.

Haha I guess I just prefer premium. There is a reason it's recommended imo. And good luck getting projectors for $300 anyways lol.

with oil prices how they are some gas stations have been diluting there gas and not maintaining there pumps and tanks. Bad gas can give crap mileage maybe he just went to the same crap gas station before bp. And I got like 250 miles on a single tank when I first got the car but it was because I had the trunk constantly loaded with tools. Either way this thread is kind of pointless just like cryn about people that dont Like the max.

I'm in with everyone that says 215 is just horrible and the difference in gas prices depends where you're filling up at. Everywhere I go the difference between regular & plus is about 15 cents & plus to premium is about 10 or 15 so only like 15-25 cents more. If you're gonna get over 100 miles more then the 6 bucks are very much worth it! I live in S. Jersey & travel to Philly & NYC/Bronx quite often! My car must be tuned better than almost everyones car cuz it doesn't matter if it's just highway or highway & city or just city. I get ATLEAST 400 miles per tank. I've gotten 470 before! Oh and i put is Plus in my car.

I run 89 octane in my car - always have - and I get 400 + / tank on the hwy. City I get around 350 or so / tank. 215 is BS! You must have a lead foot like no other. Just changing where you buy your gas will not matter ... it all comes from the same freekin place anyway, the reffinary! The higher octane is just more additive is all, that's it.

At any rate ... I couldn't afford to keep my car if it was only getting 215 / tank. For that kind of millage, I could be driving a V8 truck. (and probably still do better!) Have you checked for codes at all? I bet you have a sensor of some sort that is all jacked up.

I love when people say "x mpg is bs""something must really be wrong with you car because I get x mpg and drive with a lead foot". It just proves how little they know about what makes MPG vary.
I typically get less than 20 mpg on ANY car I drive. Doesn't matter if it's a 4 banger or a V8. when I had a full time job I would only get 14mpg on the high side from any car I drove. it is one of the side effects of never getting the car into closed loop mode.

If you never get the car into closed loop mode then you must to a lot of just short driving trips to/from work maybe? Only a couple miles at most, correct? It would take you a long time to go through a tank that way anyways, unless you stopped and started many times per day.

Or is there another reason for your specific case?
