New Electric Mod

I don't know if anyone else has done this but i ran a set of wires from my cigarette lighter into my center console and connected it to a 3 outlet cigarette plug strip.

I didn't get any pics of the install but i could draw a diagram later if anyone wants it and i'll posts pics of how it looks later.

so basically you spliced in 3new cigarette lighter into your center console from your original one?

to keep it simple you can just buy a 3 cigarette lighter thing that plugs right into your original cigarette lighter outlet.

But it must be cleaner doing it your way.
Pics will be nice of the out come.

Yeah I have a manual car as well, so I completely understand the situation.

Well lets get some pictures of how it looks in your center console.

keep in mind that wire is only intended for so much amperage. if you blow a fuse you know why.

I ran a hard line from the battery with a 20 amp fusebox inline to an AC inverter that sticks out the back of my center console for the rear seats. I dremeled out the hole and fashioned a pretty decent looking faceplate for the thing.

My buddies like it so they can use their laptops in the back seat on long drives.

why dont you hide your radar detector wire under the center console and run it behind the radio?

why not just hardwire the ipod, phone charger cables into the car with a cig lighter comprable amp fuse per unit and that way you can have a cable in your glove box or wherever and no more unplugging cig. chargers etc.

I acutally have a nice cig. lighter that just really looks like it belongs on there. its from a Navigator. also there is a red ring around the lighter that lights up when i turn on the ILL.

I have something similar - under my shifter trim, I have two additional outlets. Back when I had sat radio, I ran the wires from there, behind the stereo, and out by the vents. I don't have a subscription anymore, so the vents are unused down there.

If I go on a road trip or something, and want to bring the GPS, I pop off the shifter trim, plug it in, and run the wire out of the passenger side of the center console, so that when I park, I can just unplug it from the GPS, and it drops on the floor.

i didn't hardwire it because i would like to option if my friends needed to plug their phones in or whatnot otherwise that would have been a lot easier

Sure, because you bought the worst one possible. lol Most 3 in 1's have a central hub, then 6" or so of flexible wiring, then they plug into the cigarette lighter. Some are 12" long, the possibilities are endless. Many would work with a stick shift.

But, what you did works too. Consider putting the hub in the glove compartment? or Wedged/mounted between the seat and the console for easier accessibility?
