EVAP Codes > Me. Yes another CEL thread.

So i have been trying to get rid of my CEL for a few months now, the car is a 97. Codes are:

0807 (P0443) - EVAP Canister Purge Control Valve/Solenoid Valve

and

0705 (P0440) - EVAP (Small Leak)

I tested the valve and it works fine, and as for 0705 there are about 700 possible causes for that code.

I don't know if its related but my MPG sucks, about 300 miles from full tank till the empty light comes on. driving style is extremely conservative, its my wife's car and she drives like my grandma.

So i know many have had evap codes/problems, and i hope someone can show me the light.

You tested the white plastic piece correct? Or did you just test the vacuum cut valve, the piece that has the wires running to it.

Did you test it both for electrical operation and vacuum?
Check your gas cap.

The one I tested for didn't have electrical components, it was simply a valve that had 2 large vacuum hoses and one small one, the one with the electrical connector is close to it, it has a 6 wire plug. I only took it apart to check for charcoal buildup but found none, I haven't tested it does anyone know the procedure? As for the gas cap how do I know if its doing its job correctly?

I have the same codes as you. I'm not going to bother fixing it but my mechanic says a 0440 codes usually means the Catalytic converter is going.

Any other suggestions? What should i start replacing first? How can i tell if the gas cap is bad, i know it seals well as i hear pressure release when i unscrew it. Any way to test the canister purge control valve?
