AGX on stock SE springs - Installation complete!

I can only say one thing. AMAZING

I'm back on stock springs with the AGX's and I am probably the happiest Maxima owner alive right now. The ride is simply amazing. It's better then the day I drove it from the dealer brand new. NO JOKE. The ride is very firm yet unbelieveably smooth and quite. So this is my set up now....

Stock SE springs, AGX's Rear Addco sway bar, and FSTB, oh and while I was at it I put new urathane front sway bar bushings in.

Guys, these shocks rock!! I highly reccomend them to anybody who is interested in obtaining the best ride possible from their cars. And for those of us on stock springs, I guarantee you are going to love the ride on these struts. Very firm yet so freakin smooth. No body roll at all and the highway feels like glass. It's a totally different car.

Right now there set on 1 in the front and 2 in the rear. I put all new Nissan isolator sleeves in and I have absolutely no spring noise at all. I'm so happy I'm going to drive my car all night long. I go for an alignment on Tuesday.

AGX's all the way, they ROCK!

Congrats. I've always wondered what performance shocks such as Koni and KYB AGX would be like on stock springs. Now I know.

As for settings, you starting out on softest first?

stjohnr, he did post the settings. 1 on the front, 2 on the back.

njmax, great job. You get as ecstatic as me whenever I get a new mod

Just one question...what was the reason for removing the H&Rs?

Try cranking up the fronts... you'll be pleasantly surprised if they are anything like the Konis... rear setting doesn't affect the 'tracking' of the car as much as the fronts... at least for my setup.

Oh you got that right!

There were a few reasons, don't get me wrong, the H&R's are great sport springs and give the car an excellent look.

First off I kept getting that stupid crunch, clunk, clunk back. I'd change the wire wrap and it would go away. Only to come back again 2 weeks later. Tried just about everything I could to get rid of that noise permanently with no sucess. Perhaps it was just my car, who knows

Second, driving around in the city isn't fun with the car lowered. You have to be careful on some big bumps and dips. I'd like to put a front lip on the car also and thought it might be getting a bit close to the ground then.

Third and strongest. I baught my car new and loved the combination of sport car and luxury car that the Maxima has. By lowering the car I lost some of that luxury car feel. Now with the combination of performance struts/shocks, stock SE springs and a few bolt on's - Rear sway bar, FSTB and eurathane bushings in the front sway bar I wound up with that luxury car feel back with all the handling I had when the car was lower. Basically, I found the best of both worlds and I couldn't be happier right now.

that's great man.

I guess I'll get KYB AGXs too Should I hold off on the H&Rs?

And on a side note...

Are SE springs lower than stock GXE springs?

Probably not, right? What's the difference, if any, between the two?

I believe the ride height is the same for all models. SE springs are slightly stiffer. It all depends on what your after. IF you want the look of a lower car, then go with the H&R set up. If the gap doesn't bother you that much and you want to keep the best ride you can, just put the AGX's in. I'm sure you will be impressed.

OR - Keep your eyes open for someone selling SE springs and put them in with your AGX's. That will really give you a nice performance upgrade and maintain maxium ride comfort.

How many miles are on your stock springs? It's a 99 so I guess only a few K. My 96 has 63K and i'm looking at AGX in the summer (maybe). I don't think it's a particularly good idea to keep the stocks, am I wrong? What springs offer a smaller drop with less of a hit in comfort? I was thinking B&G's but they're pretty low (1.6"). Any advice?

Get H&Rs. Everyone has been recommending them since day one if you want to keep stock ride, but get a nice drop.

nj, you've been helpful. Thanks.

I have a few other questions...

where did you buy your AGXs anyway? is tirerack.com the only place with decent service and prices?

and I'm really surprised about how low the setting is for your struts. 1 and 2?? they go to 8 don't they? have you tried it on that setting yet? heheh...

how easy is it to make the adjustments?

I think he got them from shox.com

The back is turn-**** adjusment and the front is flat-blade screwdriver adjustable. For the back I think all you need to do is reach around in the wheel well, am I right?

BTW, thanks for the advice on those springs. I might get H&R's. Coincidentally, what's the drop? I know I should search, but I'm just too lazy...

H&Rs drop the car 1.6 in the front and 1.3 on the rear. This is an approximation of course.

Good to hear that Tom!
My suspension is very very soft, I would like to get firmer struts/shocks in the future. These gotta be at the top of my list now

Call Shox.com and ask for Steve - Tell him there is a deal on them from Cattman.com for 380.00. Just ask him to match it. Tell him a guy from NJ set you his way.

Regarding the setttings.. Haven't played yet. I'm sure the firmer settings will stiffen me up a lot more. Perhaps the upper numbers are best to ride with stiffer springs. I hear guys running H&R's are using 2 front and 4 rear.

Adjustments a very simple. Front is just a small screw on the top of the shock piston. The rear is a dial, if you install the shock with the dial facing inward, you can get your arm around the tire and make adjustments without removing the wheel or jacking up the car. I love these things man, they are one hot shock.

Settings update...

2 in the front and 4 in the rear. High speed driving is nice and tight. Cornering is amazing, I bet you can autocross on this setup with no problems at all. It seems to track much better with less movement of the steering wheel to maintain a straight line.

If you push down on any corner of the car, you almost can't move it. Thats how tight it is. Yet it rides great. Much quieter over highway cracks. I'm going to stay with this setting for a bit. It's fun!
