Disaster installing AGX shocks today!

Well I finall y got the right rear on today with out major problem, then moved to the left rear, and bam! After about an hour of trying, even with my impact wrench, I couldnt get the bottom bolt loose. ended up STRIPPING it!! Once it was toast, I couldnt even brake it loose with an air chisel. So tommorow, I get to take a torch to it and a saw. Lets hope I can find a replacement bolt!!!!

No new bolts with the AGX's?

That beat. Get nut cutters or whatever they are called. Same thing happened to me, my neighbor pulls out these cutters you tighten with a wrench, cut that bolt like butter.

That sucks...

I hate it when stuff like that happens. I stripped a bolt when taking off a lug nut, and the when it wouldn't come off the tip it just broke off. I just guess it was over-tightened or not properly torqued. Had to pay $40 to replace it (labor run alot on these things), but atleast I could drive it to Firestone. You can't even do that, do I feel your pain!

dude don't cry. i did the exact same thing and it was 9pm at night in the cold. the nut rounded off in the U channel. i didn't panic. i got my buddies rotary tool and cut the damn thing off! it took about an eighth of material off of the AGX shock, but that's negligible (looks like a scratch). i went over to nissan the next day and they gave me bolts for free. the mechanic apparantly had one in the garage. i wouldn't torch it man because the heat can damage the shock, not to mention your fuel tank is right there! use a rotary tool and saw it off!

Same thing happened to me too. I striped the bolt beyond recongnition. I know how to fix it though . Torch the bolt and nut real good and then use a "pipe wrench" to brake it lose. My bolt came right off when I did this! To bad it took me a whole week to figure this out.

Thanks for everyones advice. I'm kinda hoping that NAPA will have a replacement bolt that will work, otherwise it will be another week before I can have the time to put the new shock on. I'm not worried about F'ing up the old Tokicos cause both of them were shot after only a year, and it's just too much hassle to send them in for a hpeful refund. I was really looking forward to riding on them tonight with my new RSB, and seeing just how much of a dif the KYBs are to the Toks, and what kind of difference the RSB really makes. May be tommorrow....

I had this happen to me twice. I use a propane torch to heat the nut up and teh bolt came right out. After everythime i do a suspension switch ( i have gone through 3 set-ups so far ) i just replace teh lower stud & bolt. This will prevent furture problems. Soaking down the bolts a few days prior to swap always helps too.

maybe you guys get over excited and use too much force . Don't you all put a little WD-40 or liquid nails on the bolts before taking them off? All the bolts on my car were a pain to get off; i let them soak in liquid nails for like 15 min. Be patient .

LISTEN UP EVERYONE REPLACING REAR SHOCKS OR SPRINGS

YOU MUST SPRAY WD-40!!!!!! ON THE THE BOTTOM NUT OF THE REAR SHOCKS. THEY ARE TORQUED ON THERE VERY TIGHT SINCE THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN REMOVED. I AM SORRY I SHOULD HAVE POSTED THIS SOONER SINCE I KNEW ABOUT IT. SO DO YOUR FRONT SHOCKS FIRST SO BY THE TIME YOU COME TO THE REAR THE WD-40 SHOULD HAVE LUBBED IT UP SOME. YOU CAN USE ANY OTHER LUBRICANT I JUST CANT REMEMBER THE NAME OF ANOTHER I JUST USE THAT. AND YOU CAN JUST GO TO THE NISSAN DEALER AND GET A REPLACEMENT IT SHOULDNT COST YOU NO MORE THAN $2.00 PLUS TAX.

Synki,
Sign me up! Can you tell me where to get them? Dealer? Also, is the rear nut/bolt the same as the front two?
