0603...Misfire

Has anybody gotten this code before? It seems it just popped up right after I replaced my hood. Its my sixth cylinder thats misfiring. I took out my whole short ram intake and checked for leaks and that doesn't seem to be the problem. Ugh help please and btw search isn't working for me.

Have you done any sort of diagnostics at all on that cylinder? Minor things like swapping the coil with another one, or checking the coil, or pulling the plug and seeing what that looks like?

Do the basics, then come back.

yea, its either a spark plug or ignition coil, had that before, did all plugs and replaced one coil and the CEL went away by it self

Definitely. Or an injector, or injector wiring, coil wiring, the drivers in the ECU. It's 'definitely' nothing, as no diagnostics have been done yet.

Yup it can be the fuel injector also. I have the code P0303, and my misfire is in cylinder 3. I'll post up what it was after I get it diagnosed and fixed on Tuesday. Are you also getting a knock sensor code?

I recently changed spark plugs, and the car ran fine for a week after that. then one day it started to sputter at stop lights and bucking when excelerating. the cel light soon followed, the code indicated a misfire in cyclinder 5, upon close inspection I noticed the coil pack boot for cylinder 5 was torn around a seal at the button where it plugs onto the spark plug. I replaced just the boot and the car is once again running great. So if I was you, I would first try replacing the boot for the cylinder thats mis firing. Oh, my cel light came off by it self also. hope this help.

Napa sells the boot.

1999 Maxima Spark Plug Diagram - where is Cylinder #5

Can someone describe where the cylinders are located?

I have a misfire in cylinder #5. I believe #5 is the rear driver side cylinder -- i.e., in the front of the car facing toward the engine and windshield, I believe #5 is in the rear (close to the firewall) on the far right side.

Correct???

Best if someone could share a diagram.

Thanks.

Thanks for the diagram!!!

Given rf97's input, I am also suspicious regarding the coil pack boot (which he notes that Napa sells). Is the boot for the coil pack simple to replace or does it require splicing of wires of some sort. I am hoping it is something close to plug and play.

Thanks in advance!!!
