Strut boot and bumpstops

According to the sticky in this forum, they recommend you get a Ford Mustang strut boot and bumpstop if you have a lowered suspension. This is KYB part number SB103.

I have a problem because the bumpstop is integrated into the strut boot. The OEM however, has the bumpstop integrated into the upper spring perch:

How should I go about this? Is there a way to remove the OEM bumpstop from the perch? Should I attach the new bumpstop/strutboot in the same way?

The bump stop will pop out of the metal. Ive never had kyb fronts but I zip tie the boots to the strut.

My boots were all jacked up. I put tokico struts and springs on and i just took the bump stop and cut it in half. This way i have more travel, but still have a bump stop. You do not need the dust boots. I have driven my car this way for a few years with no problems.

Ok, the picture on the website depicted it a little differently. I guess the bump stop is separate.

I still can't get the old one out though. Should I just try more brute force? It isn't like it is integrated into the assembly or anything is it?

No, it's just snapped into a grove. Use a screwdriver and pry it out.
The KYB covers are only going to slip onto the strut shaft.
Then use a zip tie to hold them onto the body of the strut.
The top part simply floats on the piston.

Don't forget to clock the assembly correctly when you put it back together.
The word OUT stamped on top of the upper perch must face outward or be
in line with the struts lower mounting flange.

*The part numbers are different for the fronts vs. the rears. (SB103 and SB108) iirc

did you trim your bumpstops when you lowered the car? In the
picture it doesnt look trimmed. Maybe thats why it broke.

Hmm....the SB103's have a smaller hole at the top than the bottom. Nowhere in the stickies did it mention that the sb103 bumpstops had to be drilled.

I'm pretty sure the part they gave me is an sb103. This strut doesnt fit through this bump stop. :-/

Should be interesting finding a drill bit big enough and drilling through this plastic/rubber material.....

If your shaft is a tight fit, use some lube.

You don't need to drill anything larger, the tighter the better.

I just worked/pressed mine down on the shaft. Tight fit but worked out nicely.
