idk how the reprogramming kit works so maybe someone has some useful info or better yet has one? both kits do pretty much the same but i'm guessing the reprogramming kit works through the tcm?

The reprogramming kit has nothing to do with the TCM. I have it and it's a VB mod. I would think that the reprogramming kit is similar to a Stage II VB mod. The 1-2 shift is very firm, 2-3 is also quite noticeable, and lockup is also very firm. When I had the 3L VQ I could squeal 1-2 no problem. Just a warning, if you dont like real pronounced and hard shifts, stay away from this kit.

Differences:

Reprogramming kit:
RE4F04A-HD2

Nissan Quest Mercury Villager 4F20E 1993-2002, Altima Maxima DOHC RE4F04A 1993-99
Mercury Villager 4F20E 4 speed
Corrects: Falling out of gear at stop; delayed forward engagement; direct clutch blowout caused by runaway line pressure; Burned 3rd clutches; No 2nd; No 3rd after 3-2 or 4-2 kickdown
Direct clutch inner seal leaks, wears or opens due to rotating force; Corrects soft 1-2 and 2-3; Includes high temp low shrink rings. Firmer 4th & lockup. “Trick Valve” for high performance. Ideal for Nitrous or Turbo Charging.

Shift Kit:
Nissan Quest Mercury Villager 4F20E 1993-2002, Altima Maxima DOHC RE4F04A 1993-99
Mercury Villager 4F20E 4 speed
Corrects/Prevents/Reduces:
Falling out of gear at stop; delayed forward engagement; direct clutch blowout caused by runaway line pressure; Burned 3rd clutches; No 2nd; No 3rd after 3-2 or 4-2 kickdown
Direct clutch inner seal leaks, wears or opens due to rotating force; Corrects soft 1-2 and 2-3; Includes high temp low shrink rings. Improved shifts firmer 4th & lockup.

thanks man. it was a toss up but now i'm sure i'll go with the reprogramming kit especially that it mentions turbo.
was it hard to install/did it come with instructions or did you have someone put it in?

it comes with instructions but I still had a reputable transmission shop put it in. I've heard of too many horror stories where people have messed up their tranny trying to install the kit. And Dave is right, Suprastick is the way to go.
