Awkward gear shifting

Awkward gear shifting

Well I have mainly 2 questions... its been getting colder out here lately, each time I turn on my car in the morning it idles over 1000 (between 1200-1300) it does that for an little and then goes down to the normal 700 or so, is that normal?
Other issue I am having and I’m not sure its related to the previous question, but also in the morning when I start to drive it takes an while to get into that second gear change ( have an automatic), rpm reaches approximately 3500 and then finally shifts with an little pull... lately I have been pulling out very slow and letting the gas go where it makes it change early rpm, the weird thing is that it does it for only an couple of minutes and after that it changes as normal smoothly and with no pull... and I don’t have that issue for the rest of the day unless the car sits for an long time... any ideas of what it could be? Or something worth me checking?

this is all normal.

you might consider putting some synthetic fluid in your tranny. I have redline mt-90 and like it others like the amsiol gear oil. They are essentially the same and will improve your cold weather shifting a bit.

completely normal. nothing to fear. wouldnt hurt to get the trans flushed if it hasnt been done for a while

wasnt paying attention and skipped over where you wrote you had an auto DONT put MTF in an auto haha.

The tranny revs higher when it is cold in order to warm things up to proper operating temps. everything sounds normal.

Won't improve his to much though, in fact it would probably blow up pretty quick if he tried to put mt-90 in it.

another thing to consider is that when cold the torque converter wouldn't lock up all the way and that also keeps your rpm a little higher till everything warms up

so u guys say that the higher rpm is normal... now are u also refering to normal whats happening with the change of gears?

delayed shifting and shifting at 3500 RPM under light acceleration/ low throttle is NOT normal cold or hot.

your cold start idle is fine though.

i have never owned an auto but i know they will hold gears much longer when things are cold. 3500 seems a bit high but not way off. what rpm does the 2-3 shift come at?
