Methods of securing OEM struts to FG/CF hoods?
Methods of securing OEM struts to FG/CF hoods?
I'm trying to congure up a way to use the stock struts on my aftermarket Carbon fiber hood. The shell is fiberglass, so I'm dealing obiously with the fiberglass here.
Have any of you bothered to attempt this? If so, what did you come up with?
Hoping to get some pictures up for clarification, I'm going to be looking closer into it this weekend and will have pics by then at the latest.

I don't know if that would be a good idea. They'd hold them up, but when you go to close it, it may be too hard to close. Too much pressure, the hood could bend. It's hard to explain.
Someone else may have a more precise answer.

I dont think the stock struts would be a good idea. It'll put too much pressure on the hood while its closed, and possibly crack it. I havent personally tried this with my car, but maybe someone with more experience with CF will chime in.
well my hood struts are shot, so I'm not sure how much pressure they're going to put on the hood, or if they'll even hold it up. But I'd prefer vice grips on them to a bloody stick, pretty ghetto. Even a hood prop would be ok, but I'm pretty sure all 4th gens came with struts, I may be wrong...
Either way, I am just trying to find the best course of action, and find out if its possible.
All the mods I do to my car I fight very hard to keep the same quality or better than OEM.
A stick isn't really something I'd like to see here. I'm sure you all can appreciate that.

I have been doing alot of research on CF hoods (still at a loss as what to get though) but i have read a few places that people are using blown struts on there hoods and holding fine. The CF hoods are what...? half the weight of a normal hood? give or take a few lbs. so the blown struts equate for the difference in weight....
Yes, blown hood struts will work. Ive seen it done. My buddy Dubbya did it to his.
As far as attaching them goes, all the CF hoods Ive seen actually had the areas to install the little ball mounts that the strut snaps onto. If yours doesnt, not too sure how your going to secure it onto it.

Hmmmm. Yeah unfortunately, my hood didnt come with jack. I had to drill every hole for every clip, weatherstripping, rubbers, everything.
The latch they sent didnt work either, so I had to modify it.
And the kicker is someone must've hit the wood that they attatched to the hinge mounting nuts and busted up the fiberglass, so I had to patch that up.
My weekend just got packed full, but I'm still gonna try and mess with it Sunday and I'll put some pics up.
I've still gotta figure out hood latches/pins. Right now the hood is my speed limiter, nothing over 60 haha
