Adding Power Seats

I remember reading several post lately about people adding powered seats when they car didn't come with them from the factory. Even though the Maxima comes pre-wired for powered seats there was no power for them.

Well I ran into this problem today and it took me a minute to find out why after grabbing my FSM.

First of all you need to add a fuse and then add the circuit breaker.

I think most people add the fuse but forget about the circuit breaker. For those who don't know what it looks like or where it's located pictures are below.

I ran into this a while back when john (columbianmax) added heated power seats to his car.
BTW 95 and 96 do have a difference in the main fusebox wiring underhood.

What does the fuse box wiring under the hood have to deal with adding power seats?

The fuse you need to add is in the interior fuse box and the circuit breaker is behind that fuse box.

when one is trying to find why the seats don't work and following diagrams it helps to know that the blocks underhood don't match.

I'm still not understanding you. There is power to the interior fuse box at all times. Once you installe the fuse there then there is power to the circuit breaker. Install the circuit breaker and you now have a complete circuit and your power seats work. None of that involves any wiring under the hood.

when we were doing the search to find out why they didn't work after plugging them in (I was at home on the PC and he was at the car) I started with the 96 FSM and wanted him to check the fusible link underhood first since he had already checked the fuse in the car and it had no power. so he went under the hood to look at the fusible link but needed to know which one to check. 96 FSM showed one location in the box and 95 had another. so it caused some confusion originally until I got the 95 FSM and found the difference. then we followed the diagram and found the circuit breakers.

I see now. He must have checked the wrong side of the fuse in the car then. The fuse comes before the circuit breaker. If he would have done that correctly you wouldn't have had to go looking for fusible links and such.

a good fuse will have power on both sides of the fuse, in this case neither side had power.

That's true if the fuse is installed and is good. I'm still not sure how when you added the circuit breaker that the fuse had power then considering the circuit breaker is after the fuse in the circuit.
