Guys with 17x8 and 235/45/17's post here please.....
This is what I think I will be going with. I found some Konig Tantrums locally here and some Maxxim Pursuits, each that I like. Both are 17x8. Can I put 235/45/17's on there and have NO WORRIES about rubbing, safety, etc.
Let me know if you have this setup and have any problems or if this wont work. Finally, I might be getting rims.....LOL. Just not what I thought I would have at first (2001 SE 17's) but instead I like what I have found the same!

Sounds good.
Okay 40 series? Then 18's! Or he might try 245-40s but I do believe it will be off some but less.

That rim size should work fine. Be sure to check out the rim offset that's what sets where the wheel is located (in or out more). Jeff's right btw... 235/45/17 is the correct size that the max needs. 17x8 is perfect in my book.

17x8 Rota Sage 5's with 235/45zr17. i do not have any problems with rubbing lock to lock or going over bumps, even when i have 4 passengers. if you want 40's then get some 235/40zr18 with some
18x7-8 and youll be set. 235/40zr17 actully have less diameter than 225/45zr17. if you buy a tire that has less diameter than stock it will make the speedo read high.

I have a 4th gen(I don't know if the suspensions are different between 3rd and 4th) and I run 235/45/17 on MOMO Sports. No problems what so ever. The ride is different, as far as 17 and up in size, the larger the rim, the worse the ride and performance. Also speaking of weight...remember that it will put more stress on your brakes to stop you at high speeds with heavy chrome rims and excess sizes.
I would suggest you take a ride in someones car that has the size you want to run, make sure it's the feel you like... I personally wouldn't be able to stand a harsher ride than I have with my 17's. Plus a lot of 17's look like 18's depending on their design....

Wow, thanks for all the opinions.
I dont really want 18's. And, hearing the ride will be alittle stiffer, thats good, cause its not stiff enough right now stock. Now I just got to find either of the 2 wheels I mentioned in the first post in this thread for a great price. Thanks again, I really appreciate it!

Actually, I dont think either rims are going to weigh more then 22lbs? Thats not to bad at all, and performance wise, I dont mind it. If they were all 17lbs, I would MAYBE get what, .1 off my 1/4 time if ever ran the 1/4? LOL. Performance I like, but I dont think a few lbs is worth it for me though. Now, if those were 30lb rims, then that would be a different story altogether.......hahaha
SLC I take it means Salt Lake City? yeah, salts=bad! But no, I didnt even know what your rims weighed lol. So I really dont know if they are heavy or not.
I just cant wait to get the wheels though. I think I am going to go with the Maxxim Pursuits for 1. Cheaper 2. 6 spokes look more like the 2001 SE rims and 3. Cheaper?!! LOL. They are still made by Konig so they are good rims, but price means alot! I can get the CAI sooner this way now! LOL

$118 for the Maxxim Pursuits over at www.whalentire.com
I had 17X8 GS400 wheels with a 50mm offset / 235/45/17 tires and was happy. I installed the Wilwood brake kit and had to use 6mm spacers to clear the calipers. Had no problem with rubbing the inner fender or anything.
I have a set of 17X8 SSR Integrals 32mm offset on the way and will put some 235/45/17 tires on them. They fit nice but I'd actually suggest getting 245/45/17 or 255/40/17 tires.
