Spec Clutch Question.....

Ok, So I am in the process of gathering up parts for my 3.5 swap and I have a question about Spec clutches....Below is a list of the clutches listed on..

http://www.importcarpartsplus.com/maximaclutchfw.htm

1984-2001 3.0L

Stage 2 #SN442 - Torque Capacity - 395 ft/lbs. - Retail Price - $389.00 - Your Price - $336 shipped

Stage 2+ #SN443H - Torque Capacity - 430 ft/lbs. - Retail Price - $409.00 - Your Price - $375 shipped

Stage 3 #SN443 - Torque Capacity - 465 ft/lbs. - Retail Price - $369.00 - Your Price - $320 shipped

Now, My question is... Would you go with the stage 2 or 3 for the 3.5 swap? Does anybody here have any experience with them? I was thinking to go with the stage 3... And the price is cheaper to boot... But my only concern is the car will be a dd and I don't want something too harsh. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! Paul

I would not put a spec clutch in any vehicle I cared about.

I have a Spec Stage 3 and their billet flywheel and besides a little chatter, I love it! It will stand up to clutch kicks like there is no tomorrow. They did have a period when they had a REALLY bad batch of their Stage 2's come out, but since then they have been fixed and no problems since then. Also, Exedy is another VERY good company to get a clutch from. That is who a lot of manufacturers get their clutches from. I had a Stage 2 (thick disc) on one of my old cars and that was another VERY good clutch. I personally would stay away from ACT. I have driven a few cars with them installed and just did not like the way they felt. Although, that is a preference thing.

Either way you go we can help you out. The Spec ships out in a day or 2 from AL. The ACT NM1-HDSS is in stock and ships same day out of MI. We should have others in stock also.

I have a Spec stage2 with Fidanza Flywheel there is a lil chatter but grabs great and holds. I believe most of my chatter is due to shot motor mounts.

That's funny, my LUK clutch is the same part number (06044) as Excedy. What's up with that?

I started a thread in the 5th gen section with the Maxima I just received and I think the lightweight Fidanza flywheel and Exedy Stage 1 clutch are the root of my problem with the rough engaging shifts. Possible? Is there anything when installing a clutch and flywheel a person may pass over to cause this problem? Just curious if anyone else has had this problem. Sorry to thread-jack. Thanks
